I really doubt if most Hoggers here could tell the difference in a finished Magazine sized page. When it was film, for a lot of magazines, requiring medium format just kept the non-professional from clogging their submission process.

Ralph, sorry to all for missing the Mon Tue thread. And yes it was a serious question meant to learn something. And was partially stimulated by the Sony announcement. I think I will sign off for a while, a long while, because the sarcasm and snarkiness get in the way of what otherwise might have been an interesting (to me anyway) discussion and debate about competing technologies.

Just a suggestion John: do what the snarkies should have done: simply ignore the stuff you don't like.

I was looking at Hasselblad images this past weekend. Online in a flickr group of miscellaneous landscapes, there's no way to say which camera created any individual image. The questions about medium format might come down to:

How far do you want to be able to crop into the fine details to create full-screen and / or large prints?

Do you have lenses and shooting technique to maximize that ultra high resolution?

How large do you want to print an image of extraordinary detail?

So, if you're only going to drive your Ferrari around the neighborhood going to the store for milk and church on Sundays and posting onto 1080x1080px Instagram, what do you need all those megapixels for?
I was looking at Hasselblad images this past weeke... (show quote)

Well, I think you make some good points, except for the Ferrari. I live in an exurban setting, so driving a Ferrari to the grocery store could be quite an enjoyable trip. I have to settle for a 2005 Honda S2000, but it's still a much more enjoyable trip than in the wife's CR-V! I have no idea what the automobile example says about cameras, but I just had to share.
