All taken with a D600 and Tokina 100mm macro and a set of tubes.

It doesn't really matter which macro lens you get, all about the same. The Tokina is extremely sharp and you can find excellent used ones on ebay for a couple hundred bucks. Most hobbyist buy a macro lens and seldom use them, so most used models are hardly used at all. I've used several different focal lengths and the 100mm size works about the best for live subjects.

IIRC, there's early and later versions. In using
what I believe to be an early version, I've been
very pleased with the results. How it interacts
with the D610 I cannot say. It shouldn't matter
much what body you use. I use it only for its
macro function, so I don't care about AF. IOW,
it's not doubling as an eye-AF "portrait" tele so
I can't speak to that.

=========================

If the new version differs much from what I'm
using, I'd expect it to be even better, cuz I do
use one example of current Tamron optics and
find it amazing, their 45/1.8 Distagon type of
normal lens. The AF action, the imaging, and
solidity of that lens attest to very high quality
of current Tamron products.

A friend of mine has the Tokina 100mm and I used this lens on my D750. It is an excellent lens at a fraction of the cost of other macro lenses.

I've had the Tamron 90mm macro for about a year. It was recommended by my local camera store and I have loved using it. Focal distance is about 11-12 inches so it depends on what you're taking photos of. But I find that's it's good for most things. Nice lens and you wouldn't regret getting it.

I have the Tamron 90 mm and love it. I have used a friend's Nikon 105 mm which is a heavier lens. My photos were better with the Tamron.

Hi kcj,

I use the Tamron 90mm and it's does a great job. I've used a friends Tokina 100mm and based on dollars alone, if I were making a lens purchase today I would get the Tokina 100mm. I use my lens and the friends lens on a D700, D750, and several D7??? cameras. Both provide are excellent but the Tokina is less expensive. Take care & ...

Both of those lenses are quality lenses and both are capable of excellent images. The quality of the images we get depends more on us than on the camera or lens.
In my case, as Nikon owner I prefer the 105mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor.

I own the Tokina 100mm macro lens and use it on my Nikon D600, reasonably priced, IMHO, a great lens.
