OK
Turn camera on.
Press the second button from the left by the top screen "Drive-AF"
Turn the selection dial (probably the rear one, that is factory default) until you have a single tiny rectangle showing or a rectangle with an S next to it. Those will give you one frame per shutter press (the S everything moves slower and it is quieter). I set mine on the multi rectangle with S which is slow burst and I can press and release for a single shot or hold it down for a slow speed burst. The multiple rectangles with "H" you are currently set on is High Spreed Burst - keeps taking pictures at the highest fps speed the camera can do until the shutter is released.

If you turn the other selection dial it will change the AF from "one shot" (does not refocus until you release and press the shutter again) to AI Focus (processor decides which AF focus mode to use) to AI Servio (continuous refocus on a moving subject).

I thought I posted this earlier today but it's nowhere to be seen now so here goes again.

My 5D IV shutter is taking 2 shots on the majority of my presses. Say better than 50/50, one press of the shutter results in 2 shots. I have had it at burst speed for some bird photos, but returned it to Single shot.

I don't know whether it is my aging fingers not having the controls of yesteryear, or there is a setting I have missed that allows the camera to double up?? Is there a "sensitive" setting? Or is it just me being a Klutz?
I thought I posted this earlier today but it's now... (show quote)

You need to re-set your camera.

Press the tiny button on the back that reads,"INFO."

You will see a screen that has aground of squares with an "H" in the lower half of the LCD screen. Press the "Q" square on the left side of the screen or the "Q" button on the right of the screen.

Then press the box with the multiple squares. It will highlight and then press the square left of that one.

It is a simple fix.

You may want to download from the Canon website a user manual onto your cell phone. It's a little time consuming but I never put the manual in my bag. Why give a crook an advantage how to use my "baby."

You could also buy for under $15 a laminated sheet from PhotoBert's.

By The Way, the Mark IV is a nice machine that I love. Not as much as my wife. It's a close second!

Happy Shooting!

By the way, that feature is predominately used for sports. You will get a group of photos in rapid succession. That is a nice feature.

Ok, thank you for all the responses.

It is indeed an error on my part. I thought I had wound the shutter back to single shot, and, looking at the display, thought that "Single Shot" meant one. I now understand that there is more meaning conveyed in that, and there are permutations within that single shot.

I couldn't find what I was doing wrong because there are hundreds of "hits" on how to do bursts but there are no hits on how not to do bursts. Obviously, it's not something people search for.

Thanks for all the explanations.
