Actually it started out in the Photo Gallery but went downhill from there. Good job, folks.

Glad to read your post. I was a deputy with Santa Barbara Sheriffs Office. I took my son and daughter shooting from about age 3. Of course they did not have control of the firearm, usually a 2 inch .22 revolver, but I held it and let them squeeze the trigger. As they progressed to where they held the revolver my hand was around theirs helping them aim and if course controlling the muzzle for safety. All the while there was conversation regarding safety, safety and then safety for good measure. I had some loaded firearms around the house and the House Rule was that they never touch any firearms unless I was home. They had permission to ask to see the guns whenever they wanted. Occasionally they would ask to see this gun or that gun. I took the opportunity to show them every time how to check to be sure the gun was loaded or not and to make it safe.

Guns are not good or bad. They do what they are made to do by whoever is holding them just as is a hammer, vehicle or other tool.

You didn’t lock the guns up, unloaded, with kids around unsupervised? You must not read the tragic stories of children around guns.

Hi Bro...L A County and Ventura County...My patrol area was West Hollywood. An area of 2.3 sq. miles. (Including the Sunset Strip.) LOL but a lot of trouble was packed into that small area. It was the same way with my kids also...Show and tell any time they wanted when I was home. The first time I took them to a range, I was explaining ALL the rules and safety to them, and not knowing who I was, the range master offered me a job...teaching gun rules. LOL. I told him sorry, etc...
Rich...

Like it or not. It is a photograph.. We can't discriminate.

In the Marine Corp (60-67) we called it a rifle. Not a gun.

In my opinion that was one very chicken s**t game warden. A BB gun is not a firearm for one thing. He could have handled it much more effectively without issuing a citation. He taught the young man nothing and made an enemy that day. A shame.

Dennis

I agree the warden was a total sh*t head, but unfortunately there are a couple of states/cities that consider a BB gun an actual firearm. New Jersey is one of them!

But what if it wasn't rifled or was a handgun? Long time since I got to poke at Marine's.

On the t***sport going to Nam we had 500 Army (four HQ units) and a 1200 man Marine replacement battalion. Our four army units had a total of 4 full birds, 8 Lt Col, and about 20 majors-all senior on the promotion lists, the Marine was a newly minted major. So the Navy put the Army officers in charge of all troops and gave the plumb jobs to the Army enlisted (I showed movies on the deck at night.). A Marine acting as an SP saw one of my units older members hunched over the rail with his hands in his uniform pockets (got chilly in Mid-Pacific in November). Walked up and said no hands in pockets while in uniform. Our Command Sgt Major kept his hands in his pockets and turned so the guy could see his rank insignia and told him "Sonny, you just run along and tell it to someone who cares." Said Marine did as told.
