How to lock focus after locking exposure on d5100 camera. I know I can lock focus and then lock exposure, but I would like the way around, any thoughts?

One way is to use manual exposure.

Look up back-button focus in your manual. I have no experience with your camera, but I like using it with my Nikon D3400.

Read your manual for the topic "back button AF/AE".

Back button focus should meet your needs.

Steve Perry has an excellent book for Nikon owners, Secrets to the Nikon Autofocus System. It gives detailed instructions on how to setup and use back button focus. The book is downloadable, try it, you'll like it.
