They converted a Nikon D70. Later I found a D70s and I use them in tandem for IR and color. I have the same lens on both cameras.

Nor does one necessarily know whom the responder is addressing! I politely direct this point to baer, who founded this Topic.

Thanks very much! Any mirrorless suggestions?
Unfortunately, my response to this is biased, probably unfairly so. I own two different mirrorless models, the Sony a6000 and a7 mk ii. They were both first released for sale in late 2014 and are still being sold brand new, although I do not know whether Sony has discontinued either one yet.

Other major brands that produce mirrorless cameras currently include: Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, and Olympus. As you know, baer, just like a buying a brand of camera entails "marrying" the company in terms of purchasing lenses and certain proprietary accessories, so now does buying a particular mirrorless camera from a particular manufacturer. The two major exceptions to this exclusivity, that I know of, are whether there are 3rd party lens manufacturers for that particular mount, and the use of lens mount adapters (and whether they have ALL the same features that enable a lens to function as if it were one made by the camera manufacturer, e.g. autofocus, aperture control, etc.)

I want to do both digital B&H and color infrared photography. My only digital camera is a D500. I use infrared film in my F4 and FTn.
I know I’ll need to buy a dale for conversion and it should probably be a Nikon. Any recommendations re camera and place for conversion?
Thanks!

I had tried putting an iR 720nm on top of my DSLR with out converting, it came out very poorly, it needed a long exposure time to take the image, after listening to some frontier of IR in the UHH forum, I learned a great deal of knowledge from them, and moved forward to experience the magic of IR photography. I really thank them for getting me into the IR photography!
I started with a self converted full spectrum P&S camera with several different wave form IR filters, and it works beautiful. I'm planning converting my old DSLR camera but was advised not to, getting a mirror-less instead, because, my old DSLR doesn't have live-view, that will have problem using the view finder through the dark IR filter, unless just convert it to a built-in fixed wave form IR filter on top of the sensor. I may have to convert my other old M4/3 Oly. I won't rush to do that, and at the meantime, the P&S does a good job!

I had my old Canon G7 converted to IR years ago and found it an excellent platform for exploring the beauties of IR black & white photography. I have not found color IR that rewarding for me.

I purchased a converted used D7000 from life pixel as a full spectrum camera. Very happy with the IR conversion. Also works great (relatively) in UV also. Their standard/extended color IR and B&W IR filters are very good too. There is also a filter than essentially reestablishes the hot mirror filter for visible light photography. The super-color, hyper-color, and Blue filters are just plain fun.

I just had a Canon 7D done. Got it back about three weeks ago and having a ball. There is a learning curve however. I use a 18-135 zoom lens and the converter adjusted the system so the AF works perfectly. Mine was done by a guy on EBAY for $200 + my cost to send him the camera. Got it back in two weeks or so and the first very snap I made is shown below. My only advice is be sure your camera can shoot in RAW as post processing is usually necessary and you have more ammo with a RAW pic.

I have listed an IR converted Fuji XT 10 on this site. There are several brands of Nikon lens converters to Fuji X mount at very reasonable prices. The camera body was purchased new and has been lightly used.

I read about LifePixel here on UHH. LifePIxal had a series of articles, charts, and examples that clearly showed what could be expected. They impressed me so much that I bought a new camera with lens per their recommendation list, and sent it off for conversion. None of the camera bodies I had were high on their list, so I bought a lightweight Lumix-easy to carry at the same time as my regular gear, and easy to tell apart so there is never any confusion of intent.

The LifePixel service ran smoothly as predicted and the Panasonic camera has worked flawlessly. I would recommend accessing their website and reading as much as you can. I did not feel that my Nikon (brand) gear was as a good choice as the smaller mirrorless products.
