Those are actually quite nice. Shows that the eye of the photographer is still the most important bit of gear. Well done.

Thank you.

So how can photographs be more like photographs than snapshots if snapshots are photographs?

I suggest you Google 'snapshot'.

At a minimum it's a casual photograph made typically by an amateur with a small handheld camera .

Most people know the difference so let's not get sidetracked.

That camera shows absolutely no wear. It may be old but the original owner does appears to have hardly used it at all.

Anyone can get a Caluet 4X5 CC400 from KEH for about $160 or less. You can probably pick one up cheaper at a garage sale.

Ever heard of a flatbed scanner? You can get a new V600 from Adorama for about $160. It will scan up to 8.5x11.7" @ 6400x9600 dpi (I recommend 2400 or 3200 dpi).

Nobody is going to believe you until you present some evidence.

Evidence of what, Scotty?

EYE am the original owner of that View Camera, Scotty, and the lens I bought for it. I take good care of my cameras - both the View Cameras, and the MF camera, and all of my 35mm SLRs - as well as my dozen DSLRs and all eleven of my bridge cameras, too. I have a flat-bed scanner. And several 3-in-1s.

Perhaps not a wall hanger but certainly a 'Face-Off'

Evidence that you ever used it. Or are you just a collector?

Unfortunately, what started as a fun idea seems to have switched directions. Which is a pity, since I thought there have been some wonderful images selected by some very talented UHH'ers.

In hopes of making it easier to enjoy the submissions that were clearly on topic with the original OP, I've loaded all the self-selected "best of 2019" into a dropbox folder. Here's the link:

Chris T -- I'm not sure if you want your submission of the lion's head to be included, since it's not clear whether or not it meets your original challenge; but would be glad to add it or any other image that you deem your best of the year.

I hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread -- just trying to assemble a little online gallery for our collective pleasure.

I've got several, but this was probably the hardest shot to get. 'Twas a feather floating from a single spider web thread in a light breeze. It took a lot of shots with an on-camera flash unit to get it just right. I'll include the entire shot so you can see the thread it was suspended from. The combination that worked was to use my SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.4 manual focus lens since the autofocus couldn't lock onto it as it blew around.

Canon Rebel T3
1/200
f/8
ISO 100

I think this is the winner!
