Heroic Head, Lonnie.

Sometimes in making a portrait you must toss out the rules. Here the tip of the nose crosses the edge of the cheek and melds with the eye. The base of the chin along with the neck are seen (old school portraiture). My sense of her powerful Latin nose seemed to demand the ignoring of the classic modern (post WW II) youth look.

The short hair in that modern style keeps the sense of the modern woman, but the look of the heroic masculine projection of strength is undeniable. It's beauty and strength that is the ideal of the comic book character of Wonder Woman.

As I prepared to do the image I was drawn to the memory of that classic Edward Weston image of the Mexican activist discharging his revolver (Portrait of Manuel Hernandez Galván, Mexico 1924).

Thanks!
I never met Edward Weston, I was to young, but I loved ready the published Day Books and seeing books of his images. I have the Portfolio One from the Friends of Photography published under Ansel Adams supervision. At one point I had his Pepper No. 30 printed by his son Cole Weston. Amazing image, but I gave it to friends as a wedding gift.

Quite a bit of skin texture gives your portrait a slightly "gritty" look in a good way, as to me, it simulates fiber paper from the old darkrooms. Cool composition too.
