I sometimes need to get a screen snippet of something like mouse-over pop-ups that disappears when I go to start the "snippet" tool (moving the mouse).
So I set the short-cut key for windows snippet tool to something I normally don't use, "CTL-ALT-G" (grab).
Now I can show a mouse-over activated menu or something, hit CTL-ALT-G and the screen remains as it was (sans mouse pointer) because I didn't have to move the mouse, and get my snippet.
I should have thought of this a long time ago!
Maybe some of you might find it handy.
For the whole screen, the print screen key (PrtScn) does that by default.
Not sure if this is the same

Yes it does.
And ALT-PrtScrn copies only the active window.
But I'm talking about using the Windows Snippet Tool,
which allows you to custom cut a snippet of the screen,
not the whole window.

I sent a Snippet Tool shortcut to my taskbar ages ago and one click with the mouse it is there.
Never regretted it.

So did I. But now I don't need it on the task bar anymore.
But I wanted a snippet of a pull-down that disappears when I move the mouse to click on the snippet tool.
The pull-down is only visible when the mouse is on (over) it.
It has a built in option.
Activate snippet then press escape.
When you have set the screen up as you want captured, press Ctrl + PrtScn

It is set up the way I want.
You don't explain what pressing CTL-PrtScrn will do at that time.
If that will re-assign the CTL-PrtScrn button,I don't want to do that!
If it will save a snippet of the whole screen, I don't want that either.
The objective was to get a snippet of an item that only shows up on a mouse-over or single click, which goes away when focus is lost on that item.
I have mine set to drag over the area of interest. I do a lot of training, so sometimes want a reference to maybe just a section of a menu etc.
The Ctrl +PrtScn activates the ability to drag over that area of interest, or of course a full screen if that is what I am after.
My workflow is to activate > Escape, and then as I am working I reactivate at any time with it able to capture those elusive moments.
My comments were really aimed at those who may want an easy system to work, not to take away any system you may have.
As we all know, there are many ways of skinning a cat, and if your system works for you, that is great.

Bummer, I can't get <esc> or Ctl-PrtScrn to do anything... Nothing in the options.
Is that new for Win 10 maybe? I'm using 7.
On my laptop, it's <FN>-<Prt-Scrn>, Alt- does nothing.
I'm missing something.
