Difficult lighting but the camera handled it quite nicely in my opinion. The Croton plant was captured with a three year old phone camera.

There has been a lot of chatter on YouTube and elsewhere about the demise of M4/3 camera, especially Olympus. Although Olympus is presently not doing well and may fail, its because of poor marketing not inferior technology.

This image of the Croton is from a sensor with a crop factor of SIX and still looks good to the vast majority of image takers, myself included. M4/3 sensors have a crop factor of TWO. This format has many physical advantages over larger formats; i.e., size, weight, and overall cost. The main disadvantage is image noise. It has all the advantages of mirror-less cameras.

The new thing in digital photography is computational imaging. Its just beginning to immerge but many of the top smart phones are boasting features.

Imagine if Olympus partnered with a smart phone manufacturer and incorporated their technology into the M4/3 format. It just might kill the other formats. There would be no need for large camera bodies and lenses with exorbitant price tags.

Olympus are you listening?

My 4-yr-old (or is it 5) phone does well in low lighting, but I wouldn't trade my DSLR for it. Depth of field suffers. Comparing is apples to oranges as far as I'm concerned.

I cannot predict the future but Olympus has done well with the 4/3 format. The OM-1 Mk II has been a great seller. Their new camera sells at a very expensive price and I am not familiar with its performance so I will make no comments. I know they have the intentions of discontinuing their Pen series of bodies because they have not sold very well lately and I cannot understand why although I know the camera market has its ups and down cycles.

Panasonic introduced recently a full frame mirrorless camera. It has been a departure of what they have done for years which has been the 4/3 system in a joint venture with Olympus. Now those Panasonic lenses for mirrorless are useless with the new camera.
If Olympus is going to go that way nobody knows for sure but it will be a big blow to those now using the 4/3 system that has been so successful.

If Olympus has financial problems I admit I am not aware of them.

Just in case you are oblivious to what is happening to the camera markets. There are many opinions on what the future will be but the numbers regardless of source paint an ominous picture.

I wouldn't trade my ML camera for the best phone camera either at this point in time. I'm not comparing; just speculating on applying phone camera technology to M4/3 sensors. The results could be awesome.
