Hi, I took the members suggestions about my question about a Z7 and D850 and today purchased a new D850. My question concerns the XQD card. Does anyone have a brand suggestion and also what capacity do I need. Thank you

I have Lexar, Sony, and Delkin and like the Delkins the best. Best warranty too.

Sony invented the format so I'd suggest you stick with Sony. (I'm not sure if anybody else makes them.)

I bought a 64 GB XQD card with my D850, and installed a 32 GB SanDisk "Extreme" SD card in the other slot - for overload protection (which I doubt I'll ever need.)

I have Sony and Delkin. Both are good. As far as size I have gone with 128 gb for all of my xqd cards.

All I know is, they are crazy expensive. I think I'll stick with SD cards.

Sony XQD G R:440mb/s, W:400mb/s. I use the 64GB size.

Also look at CameraMemorySpeed.com (look at D500 as the D850 and D500 are twinsies)

Actually the format was jointly developed by Sony, Lexar, and Sandisk as a replacement to the CF format. Sandisk elected not to produce the product and continue development of the CFExpress technology instead. Lexar and Sony agreed to manufacture. Lexar was owned by Micron but was sold to Longsys 1 1/2 years ago and Sony refused to sign off on the technology transfer for the format so Longsys has been unable to manufacture the XQD format and has also decided to continue with CFExpress development.
ProGrade and Nikon both also market XQD cards. Prograde makes their own while Nikons are made for them by Delkin. CFExpress will use the same card and contacts as XQD so they will interchange, but they have different communication protocols so a firmware update will be needed once CFExpress hits the market. Luckily every Nikon body using XQD is already confirmed upgradeable to CFExpress. That included the D4, D4s, D5, D850, D500, Z6 and Z7 models. No other DSLR or Mirrorless cameras use the format at this time. Sony has only adopted it for some of their video cameras.

One vote for Lexar.
Had them in different cameras for two years now and they have been very reliable.

Wow!!! And, which part of that exquisite, little essay answers the original question? Who mentioned CFExpress - besides you?

Thanks MT. I have four of the cameras listed and have been using Lexar and Sony cards. Any idea when the CFExpress will hit the market? From the talk a while back I expected to see them by now.

For the OP, I wouldn't by more XQD cards than you actually need if the new cards are just around the corner. Early reports, which could no longer be true, said they should be faster and less expensive than XQD.

I've been using Lexar since I got my D850 and am very pleased with it. I love the speed for downloading!
