In the past, I have used Powerpoint to make a presentation. Don't have that program anymore. Looking for an easy way I can copy photos onto software program and view on TV.

I've used HD Movie Maker and an App (Which one?) from CyberLink to make a TV viewable DVD from Still Images. They work with Win 10. Neither was free though.

Why don't you have MS-Office? (MS-Powerpoint comes with the basic versions of MS-Office) Yes, there are a few free Office clones out there.

For simple slide presentation with outlined bullet text and you control the pace, PowerPoint is the one.

For awesome slide show with timed text, different timed transition, special effects, accompanying timed music with volume control, narration, make copies or upload to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, etc., Photodex Gold or ProShow is the one.

You can add digital images to a power point presentation. Just the photo's will show. NO problem. And, you can always add words too. Power point is still a great way to make a presentation, and just put it on a memory stick and take it any where.

My TV has bluetooth through Roku, and the other is a smart TV, or I can connect with a cable, or I can copy onto a DVD from my computer and play it on my DVD player. Lots of ways these days to get your pics from computer to TV.

To just show photos in a slideshow format try Adobe Bridge.

Mac or Windows?

Presentation style — Academic Lecture? Process or Product Demonstration? Ted Talk? Sales Promotion? Travelogue? Photo Art Show?

Audience size? Venue size? Lighting conditions? Sound Reinforcement? Projection Support?

Without knowing more, it is difficult to name a specific program.

There is nothing wrong with using PowerPoint, so long as you DO NOT project that stupid outline of text that it encourages people to use. (That's a useful planning tool, and might be useful on the "notes" monitor that YOU see, but your audience should almost never see it.)

As a side comment, I would encourage you to read The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs by Carmine Gallo. It is a must read for presenters of all stripes.

If you are using a MacBook Pro or Air, Keynote is already on your machine, and is a very decent choice. An alternative on the Mac is the shareware program, Graphic Converter 10 ($40), which has a simple built-in slide show feature.

If you just want razzle-dazzle, and you're using a Windows machine, ProShow Gold is a good choice. However, I'd avoid that if your presentation contains real substance.
Mac or Windows? br br Presentation style — Academ... (show quote)

Hi Bill, I’d appreciate it if you would explain what you mean by “real substance” in the presentation, and why then you would avoid using ProShow Gold? Thanks.

NOT an expert! Other than Power Point, there is a Slideshow module in Lightroom (that I have never used!). Best of luck.

Do you want to display info other than the pictures? Such as text and titles? You know PP and are familiar with it so that is an advantage. It might be easer to just use what you are familiar with. If it is only pictures then maybe PP is overkill but then you have to learn a new method/program. Most photo-web sites will have a slide show option. Where are the photos you are going to show stored? How many? What resolution are you expecting?

I'm not really familiar with ProShow Gold but since he said it was good for "razzle dazzle" I suspect he means that it's good at fancy effects.

In my opinion, fancy effects distract from the substance since they attract your attention away from the message. Nice for a show but not for conveying information.
I'm reading something into his words so I should wait for his reply to confirm my suspicions

I highly recommend PhotoDex Pro Show Gold. I've used it for over 5 years. I make slide shows with up to 45 minutes long with music and voice-overs. It is easy to pour in your images and re-arrange them if necessary and add and/or delete. It is also easy to add, delete or re-record your voice-overs. Your presentation will have a great professional appearance. There are lots of helpful videos on the PhotoDex website and also on YouTube. You can go cheap, you can very simple software. What do you want your final product to look like -- that is the determining factor.

I haven't seen anything done in ProShow Gold that was a serious academic presentation. Everything has been razzle-dazzle, hype, with flashy effects and fake excitement.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. There's a time and place for it. I was a multi-image producer for years... We did that sort of stuff with a dozen slide projectors and a computer and 4-track tape deck.

These days, melding text, graphics, still photos, video, music, narration, and sound effects together as 4K video makes a lot more sense to me. I can and have done that with something as simple as iMovie.

I'm a big believer in storytelling. To me, the worst sort of presentation in the world is a PowerPoint done with the damned outliner. The speaker stands next to the screen with a pointer and reads the screen, because he/she doesn't really know the material well enough to speak extemporaneously from an outline on a stage monitor and present IMAGES of what is being discussed. Or maybe they freeze on stage...

What is it that Powerpoint lacks for you?

The best slide presentation software uses a video timeline, so in essence you are making a video that shows still images. I like the ProShow products. Easy to learn, even easier to master. Just about everything you'd want to do with a slide presentation you can do with these programs.

I did this with about 30 mins experience with the program.

Very nicely done.

When I used to do PP presentations I just used the pictures. Very few word slides. I would bring up a picture and talk about it. When I ran out of things to say I would go to the next picture. Had to polish it sometimes to fit into time restrictions but it generally worked for me.

The pictures were my outline.
