Just reading the pictures in the Hall of Giants and what Mr Sexton had to say about the table, I did take photos of his stats...Entrepreneurs tended to exaggerate when developing old Florida, Thanks for the updates...

I do owe you an apology. I was just starting my first cup of coffee. Retired Jr & Sr High School teacher. Doing corrections is an automatic reaction I have to fight against.

I totally understand about going by the stuff they posted on the signs. A lot of places do things like that. I often can't decide if the exaggerations/ mistakes are done on purpose or out of ignorance. I have seen people try to argue about their "facts" with people who were actually participants and told them they were completely wrong. For that matter I have had it happen myself. Try to tell someone that something they said was wrong and when I tell them I was there they still try to tell me I don't know the facts.

No, no apology, no harm, no foul Robert....the history of this place is interesting, as how Florida attractions were booming in the 40's & 50's. What's especially interesting is the restoration of the Hall and the artifacts including how it evolved from 80 to 17 acres...Cheers

McKee Gardens located in Vero Beach, FL, one of the original tourist attractions in Florida in the 1940's, has the world's largest, single piece mahogany table at 38' long. The table is the center piece in the Garden's Hall of Giants and it was first exhibited at the St Louis LA Purchase Exposition in 1903. It could seat 100 people at a time while 100 steaks could be cooked and served from the adjacent Spanish Kitchen. The Developer, Waldo Sexton, promotion of the table stated "it could sit 10 mounted horseman side by side along with two small boys, three kittens and a sting of catfish." Restoration of the Hall of Giants is an interesting story in itself.

The Hall of Giants was used for local HS banquets & parties, corporate meetings, LA Dodgers parties, Chamber of Commerce meetings and other local events. Also included are a couple of photos of the gardens other landmarks, the stone bridge and Lotus blossoms.

Being a member of the American Horticultural Society, I visit it often and membership also allows reciprocals at hundreds of other gardens throughout the state and America.

No. 2 floats my boat. To me, the interesting shot and subject matter is more important than technical camera work. An excellent presentation of a very interesting subject.

I'll wager they could seat at least eight or ten people at that table.
