You are correct!
Nikon introduced their Nikon F in April 1959 and Canon introduced their first SLR the Canonflex in May 1959. Nikon has inside information on Canon so they know the Canon flange distance before they made their mount.

Gee, since Nikons F mount predates Canons EF mount by, oh, 30 years or so, I guess your comments are pointless here.
"When in doubt, shoot it again!!!" now that memory is cheap! Like the quote.
Hedgehoggers! "I guess your comments are pointless here." No statement or comments are irrelevant. Welcome to America, Freedom of Speech. As long as we do it in kindness and love.
Why hate on nikon, I have owned both, I always preferred my nikon to Canon, just felt better, images where similar, with native lenses, but that's where it all fell apart, canon cost more to own, purchase wise, so I stayed with nikon, use the lens made for the camera for best results.

Nikon is only one of two companies in the world that make their own glass from scratch. Sorry, Canon is not the other one. Nikon lenses are so cherished that adapters were specifically made so Nikon lenses would fit on Canon lenses. Since Canon makes only a FEW lenses that equal Nikon their is no need to make a Canon glass adapter for Nikon camera's.
And What's the other lens company that make their own glass from scratch?

I am waiting to see if smarty pants dsmeltz knows. Since he thinks he is a Nikon and Canon expert.
Maybe Canon should purchase their glass from Nikon?

They did buy lenses from Nikon in the early day before Nikon made their cameras and only made lenses.

AND. Nikon is a scientific company. Canon is NOT. Nikon makes there lenses from scratch. Canon does NOT.
Nikon camera's are only a very small part of the company, the optics part of the business is much larger than the camera division. Canon is NOT set up that way.

Seriously, Nikon has inferior glass? Care to support that with some data? Even Nikon kit lenses are clearly better than what Canon markets with their Rebels. Both companies offer a huge selection of glass some are superior to the other. At what price point are you comparing? If what you say is true wouldn't 99% of all pro's use only Canon, they don't. Where did such a broad statement come from?
