After a mere 4 mile hike with only a 2400 foot elevation gain along the way I arrived at the payoff.
Ramsey Cascades features a 105 foot drop to the splash pool (?) which is just a hard rock slab. I had to cross the slippery slab to get the better angle of the falls. The falls is in wide open space with no shade. to get this image I needed a polarizer and a10 stop ND filter and still had to wait for the sun to get behind a cloud.
Camera settings were ISO 64, F18, at 30 seconds.
Thanks for looking.
Appreciate the effort you put in to get this shot ... it was worth it!!!! (Easy for me to say sitting here in my chair!!!!) Nice job & thanks for sharing.
Your effort is appreciated, Larry. This is a beautiful shot of a Serene and secluded spot! Well done!
Wonderful. The lighten seems deep in the shadows. Thank you for the background details.

I wish the day had been overcast to reduce the dynamic range but alas it was not. I made the hike the day before and was driven off the trail by torrential rains and lightening. It was supposed to be cloudy but it certainly wasn't. this falls cries for late day light or heavy clouds. Late day is tough because of the 4 mile return on a very rough steep trail. I tried to soften the shadows in Lightroom.

One of the tougher hikes in the Smokies for sure. The last 2 miles are more of a rock scramble than a hike. Would not like to walkout in the dark for sure. Still it was worth the effort. Thanks for looking.

Thank you. I think the soft water makes it serene.
Good strong colours and details. Wet rocks are bad enough but wet rocks and slopes don't make for a good combination. Stay safe....

Good hiking shoes (that I got wet), a tripod doubling for a walking stick and walking on the flat ares very slowing made it a pretty easy crossing. If the water had been deeper or faster I would not have crossed.
glad you liked this image.
More excellent work, Larry!
