For those in the Pittsburgh area who like photographing cars and car races - the Pittsburgh Vintage grand Prix starts a week of activities this weekend with Vintage car racing at Pitt Race in Wampum, PA ( just North of Pittsburgh) . At the same time, the track is also hosting the Shelby owners and Alfa Romero club national meetings. There are other events through-out the week culminating in the Vintage Grand Prix through the streets of Schenley Park in Oakland. The weekend is also a car show with over 2000 vehicles on display of all makes, models and countries. We expect a huge number of vehicles from our marques of the year - Shelby and Alpha Romeo. Bring your camera gear and get plenty of SD and CF cards. You could very easily spend the 2 days of the event racking up more shutter clicks than you will have for the rest of the year !

There are 1200+ volunteers that run the events so all proceeds from all events goes to the Allegheny Autism Society and help those with mental development issues. In the 37 years the events have run, we have raised over 5.5 million dollars for the cause. Lots and lots of events over the next 8 days so check out the website https://www.pvgp.org/ . If you have a vintage or classic car, get to the website and register to show your car and be part of the largest car show anywhere.

Those old sports cars were great. When I was a kid, they were all over the place. There were rallies and gymkhanas. I'd watch and also participate.

In case anybody is wondering - yes I will have my '68 Firebird represented at a few of the events (but not actually racing). If you do drop by the Schenley or the Waterfront car shows, stop by and say hi. I will be at the main entrance directing traffic for both events praying for a cloud or 2 but no rain ! Some shots from yesterday. These cars and the racing will be at Pitt Race until sunday. The pictured vehicles are the more recent ones from the Shelby group and will NOT be racing at Schenley Park next weekend. I didn't do any PP on the older cars yet and may put some of those up later - before next weekend. Not a lot of time to do it though so best bet to see them is to come out to Pitt Race this weekend or Schenley next weekend.
