This is a bush I found at the Albany Bulb, across the Bay from San Francisco. I've included a larger picture, and a flower detail. Can anyone identify it for me?

"Albany Bulb", is your plant at a nursery or in the wild? It is certainly a Salvia species (Sage). But I'm not familiar with what species of Sage are found in your area. It also might be a cultivar or hybrid. If it were near were I live in CA I'd guess Cleveland Sage, Black Sage, or likely a hybrid of the two. There is a Sonoma Sage that is sparsely found in Northern California as well. But that plant is not tall to my understanding. I have a couple books of just Salvia flowers, there are about 15 in California. You might try Googling images of Salvias and look for a match. But with all the cultivars (hybrids) that could take an expert to ID it.

It is a great looking plant and go captured a nice shot with lots of flowers.

Maybe Salvia Clevelandii as mentioned, https://www.laspilitas.com/nature-of-california/plants/738--salvia-clevelandii-alpine-cleveland-sage

"Albany Bulb", is your plant at a nurser... (show quote)

Thanks lamiaceae. The Albany Bulb is an (mostly) artificial spit of land built out onto the East side of the San Francisco Bay. I'll take a look at the sage plants in the area... that's a good guess.

This page may be a good place to look
https://www.laspilitas.com/garden/sages.htm

But be aware of where the plants naturally grow, and if outside of that area they may likely be hybrids or cultivars. For example, Salvia clevelandii as the name implies is found in the Cleveland National Forest, meaning the Santa Ana Mountains of Orange County, CA.

Thanks again for the reference. I think you are right, it's a hybrid of some sort. I would have thought "purple sage" (a la Zane Grey), but it is more likely a "salvia pozo blue". At any rate, it's pretty now, when most of the wild flowers have paled or gone dry.
