Laptop Card reader or USB card reader?

Just curious, I have been using my Laptop Computer's built in SD Card reader. I have not had any issues, but,...
I wondered if a quality USB card reader plugged into my Laptop might perform better?
I look forward to all opinions presented.

The only difference will be speed of transfer. If you have a USB 3.0 port and reader, it may be faster than the built in card reader.

Keep using the laptop's reader. Adding another step with a USB reader just adds another way that errors might occur.

For all intents and purposes; 6 of one, a 1/2 dozen of the other.
Your built in reader is electronically the same as a plug in reader.

On my MacBook pro the internal SD card reader, at times, did not mount or recognize the card. When I put the same card into a 3rd party usb reader it worked fine. Not sure why this was happening.

I have a MacBook Pro and it doesn't have an internal card reader. I bought an external card reader and it didn't work at all, right out of the box. Could have been an issue with just that one, but figured I would ask here if anyone has a MacBook Pro and has an SD card reader they like. Do you have one you recommend?

Sorry, I have an Asus Chromebook 15, have a built-in SD card reader, which seems to me has performed well.
For your situation, Ask the Manufacturer of your MacBook Pro for advice or reccomendation on a external / Plug-in SD card reader that is compatible with your Laptop.
