I'll be attending the big airshow in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Aug. 9-11. I'll drive up from Seattle Friday, 8/9, attend the show Sat., 8/10 and drive home Sun., 8/11. (The weather in 2016 was gloomy and grey. Hoping for better this year.)

If there are any 'hoggers also going, I'd love to get together for drinks and dinner either Fri. or Sat. PM me if interested.

Worked on F22 at Lockheed Martin. Maybe new to show but nearly 22 years since first flight. Still an awesome plane, but Obama killed building any more...

23 years ago I went to the Abbotsford show. Almost $50 each to get in and the hype was definitely overblown. Just a complete waste of the day and the money. Hope you do better than me.
By contrast we went to the McConnell AFB show last year with 100 thousand of our best friends. Free to get in, the AF personnel were great, and we got to see the aircraft up close, see and touch. They wouldn't let me scrape off a bit of paint to see if the F 35 really is solid gold underneath. :-}

Saw the F-22 in Chicago and it scared the heck out of me. Went for practice day and it came from behind me unannounced. Very loud but oh so cool. It is scheduled to be there again next month and I plan to be there.

That shot of the Mustang and F22 is spectacular! What an evolution in aircraft in 70 years!

If I may add to your post, a few years ago, unbeknown to me there was to be a group of WW2 aircraft being featured at the Santa Barbara, CA airport the next two days. I was driving home from the Ventura area, just South of Santa Barbara along the coast on Highway 101. I was startled to hear a completely loud engine noise from above and just behind me. I had absolutely no idea what it was until a beautiful B25 bomber came into view, maybe 100 yards or so above and now in front of me. I can't describe the noise of the engines but, knowing what it was, just put a few tears in my eyes and happiness in my heart. My uncle was a navigator on some of these aircraft in WW2 and my brothers and I grew up making models of these same aircraft. What an absolutely beautiful sight to see one flying right over my head.

I did go to the airport the next day and took some photos to send to my uncle and also post here on UHH. I had wanted to take a ride on one of the aircraft but at $450.00 a ride I wasn't able to do it. What a treat to see those flying machines though. The F22 must have been as much of a treat for you.

Great shots, like the 2nd one the best with a glimpse of the inside of the jet engines in flight.

We have gone to many Navy air shows and enjoyed them very much. Just remember to wear sun protection as you'll be staring up at the sky the whole day. These shows have made many a lobster out of the spectators.

Isaguy, yes the military airshows are free, but they generally feature only current US military aircraft. Abbotsford this year will feature performances by current military aircraft from the USAF (F-35 and C-5M), US Navy (EF-18), RCAF (F-18), Europe (Eurofighter and A-440 heavy lifter), as well as the USAF Thunderbirds, RCAF Snowbirds and a few civilian demonstration teams. Then there'll also be numerous WWII aircraft from the US, Canada and the UK - most of them performing. (I love the Spitfires!)

With the Canadian dollar worth only about $0.65, I consider that to be a bargain, and I've paid extra for reserved seating in an adults-only area serving "refreshments." Nikon will also be there loaning equipment. Total cost (including parking) - USD $80.

Hi there - glad to see your post - unfortunately I live too far away to be there with you - BUT- I am asking the same question regarding the CA Air Show at Mather AF Base in Sacramento, CA first weekend of Oct
https://californiacapitalairshow.com/ it is only 70 mi from my house here in the Sierras - been there twice in past years - time to go again.
I often wonder if John and Randy Fry fly these planes them selves - I was working with them in the grocery Store their father owned when they quit and opened there first store - hard working 'good' kids.

Harvey,

I've probably seen all of these at Seattle's Seafair. I love that little European trainer flown by the Patriots. (I think it was built by Fiat.)

I was stationed at Mather 1969-'70, taking navigator training, which got me a backseat job in F-4 Phantoms. They had an airshow the fall of '69 which featured the Thunderbirds in their brand new F-4Es. It was love at first sight.

I'll look forward to seeing your pix.
