And you both beat me to it! Fantastic shots, Dave! Certainly wouldn't want it on me!

Thanks all. Another first for me. I was chasing dragonflies when I happened upon him. At first I thought it was leaf material stuck on the top of the weed. He sat completely still. Not even his antennae wiggled.

An assassin bug. These are not nice guys. Look them up. They can spread a dangerous disease. They are blood suckers.

This one is not a red blood feeder. Doesn't transmit diseases. Some members of the Hemiptera do. Usually feeds on other arthropods. They will bite you if not handled carefully. I can attest the bite is painful.

Great shots.

This Wheel bug is a nasty one so beware. In Southern Md they hang out on wooden fences and if you reach around the fence and bump one it sticks the little black tube into you and injects you with a painful dose that is intended to liquefy the insides of a bug. The one we encountered, my brother at the time, bit him and he was in pain all afternoon. After is liquefies the inside of the bug, it eats the bug like it's a shake, through it's black straw.

Looks like a creature from the dinosaur days, look at the weird crest on it's mid section and it's gray color! And it's a tough bug. As I remember catching one, removed it's head and put both in a jar so everyone in the family could see what bit my little brother. The bug's body still twitched over a day later. The only bug tougher is a roach though their bodies are soft and they don't bite you. When we took the time to notice them on wooden fences, they were everywhere! We just didn't notice them. And honestly, once we knew to watch out for them, none of us were bitten again. Still a very strange looking bug.
