I was there about 20 years ago and John Ford Point was memorable. Our tour guide had an Indian on a horse in full dress pose on the point for us.

We had a great experience on a sunrise photo tour with Navajo Spirit Tours. We had to cancel the afternoon before due to illness and they rescheduled us with only two days left on our vacation stay. Picked us up at our hotel for an experience we won't forget. Very friendly, engaging conversationlist and offered photo assistance and location tips. Enjoy your trip.

Stunning shot, well done

You're welcome. Have a great time - that's such a beautiful area. BTW, the same author also has a book for Arizona and one for CO and NM, but I think that one is now out of print.

Those books are very, very good. I used them for CO, NM and UT/AZ.
But the photo tour from the above link sounds like it would be awesome.

For all guided tours, I would recomment to protect your equipment from dust.
It is a desert out there, you know?

I went with Wayne Pinkston on a nighttime photo workshop to Monument Valley. We were there 4 days. Our guide was Quanah Parker, who was great. He is a young guy who is passionate about photography and just a very nice guy. I highly recommend him. He can be reached at: https://www.quanahphoto.com/about

You won’t’t be sorry.

Thank you for that link.
Very impressive. I am planning a return trip to Monument Valley and want to take a photo tour as well.

John Ford Point for sure. If you've ever seen a John Wayne western, That's John Ford point.

Thanks for the information. As a matter of fact I have seen lots of John Wayne westerns. I'm looking for the iconic vistas (ok call it tourist type images) this trip. The one you mentioned and the one from the Forest Gump movie as well.

Great picture! Do you offhand if there is an RV park near the hotel?

I only use weather resistant gear since I am in S Az part of the year. Blowing dust- not nice! And it monsoon season too.

If you will be traveling thru the valley in an open vehicle, take a ziplock bag big enough to hold your camera and lens. Don’t change the lens especially while moving. The area is very dusty and everything will be covered in no time.

A local guide is always helpful and i do recommend you use a guide, but you can also just get great shots from along the roads where your Rv is still safe to travel. i was just there in June and caught the sunset time.

Love your pictures!

Thanks so much. Yes either sunrise or sunset time should be the most dramatic lighting and colors.

Good Morning-
I will be visiting Monument Valley in a few weeks. I am wondering if it is worthwhile to sign up for a photo guided experience and if so does anyone have any recommendations for same? Any hints that anyone would care to share to get a good image? We will be traveling in our RV traveling entering from Highway 191. Thanks.

I have found getting a local pro guide is essential when visiting giant and vastly photographic sites like this. Over my years of travel I found I missed soooooo much on my self guided tours - not only do they take you to prime spots they generally know the best composition areas and time for lighting. Oh - most have great stories of the history of the areas.

Is there a "best" time if the year to visit? I don't like crowds and the "touristy" spots.

Winter is less crowded. Cold at night but can get up into 60's if sunny
