Any recommendations for wide angle lens for Pentax K-S1 DSLR ?

Strangely, Irix is making their lenses in Pentax mount (last time I looked) - manual focus tho.

I have the Lawoa 12mm/2.8. It’s FF and manual focus. It does well on my K1 and K3. I did have to check out two copies to get one that was mounted reasonably well for off center mounting.

You really should be looking at Pentax Forums website for this question. (We Pentaxians are few and far between here on UglyHedgeHog which I read daily for other reasons.)

There are two different Pentax 15mm prime lenses. The original, the one that gives the iconic starburst effect, is the SMC coated version. I believe its Aperture blades are straight, not curved, which may be why the starburst effect can be achieved. The HD coated 15mm lens has, if I recall, curved blades.
I own the original, the SMC coated lens and I love it.

Then there is their 10-17 mm ultra wide angle zoom. I own this too. I find it quite sharp, surprisingly sharp, for a zoom.
And at the widest end, it is Fisheye, which is a total blast to use.

If you prefer your ultrawide without fisheye effect, the Pentax 12-24mm f4 produces very nice images.

How wide do you need?

Is manual focus okay or do you need autofocus?

Do you have a preference for zooms or primes? How much do you want to spend?

Both Sigma 10-20mm and Tamron 10-24mm are available in Pentax mount. Those are the more affordable, less specialized UWA zooms. Between those two, I think I'd be more inclined to the Sigma.

Sigma also offers the widest non-fisheye available, their 8-16mm zoom. However, it's got pretty strong wide angle exaggeration effects and is fairly pricey.

Unfortunately, Tokina doesn't make any lenses in Pentax mount. That's probably due to a non-compete agreement that was part of the deal when Pentax brand was sold to Ricoh by Tokina/Hoya/Kenko. However, some of the Pentax branded lenses bear a striking resemblance to some Tokina lenses.

There are a number of manual focus/manual aperture third party lenses... some of which are pretty good. If you don't want to consider those, selecting "autofocus" in either of these searches will limit to showing only those.

Note: You're probably aware that 30mm and 35mm lenses won't be very wide on your camera. The Adorama search includes a lot of them.

I have not used them personally, but if you want something really compact I'd look into reviews of the Pentax DA 15mm f/4 and DA 21mm f/3.2 lenses. Those caught my attention in the above searches. Rokinon/Samyang/Bower are offering some pretty impressive manual focus/manual aperture lenses, too.

Thank you for the additional information. I agree - it is an outstanding lens.

I like the Pentax 10-17 mm zoom first for its surprisingly good quality for an inexpensive zoom. I own thousands of dollars of Pentax lenses, and I picked this one up a few years ago almost on a lark. No, it is not metal construction like some of my more expensive Pentax lenses, but very well-built. Light, small, so even on a long overseas trip it takes so little room in my camera bag that I often throw it in at the last moment.
I am not an expert on the precise differences between ultra-wide angle curvilinear and non-curvilinear and fisheye and such, but I can avoid fisheye effect when I don’t go all the way to the widest edge.

In my first post on this thread I recommended that the OP consult PentaxForums.com for much more in-depth information on this question.
For example:
- In June 2016 that site had a comparison between four different relatively inexpensive wide-angle zoom options. The 12-24mm F4 you mention was not included, I do not believe it was out at that time?
- I also recommended that the OP look at the Pentax 15mm prime lenses.
- Not yet mentioned last I looked at this thread is the superb, truly iconic Pentax 31mm f1.8 which although of course not ultra-wide is wider than the range of normal lens range that we usually think of. (Of course on a crop sensor camera such as the one that the OP owns this “becomes” approximately 45 mm.) but depending on what the OB had in mind, I think we would be remiss not to at least mention it. It is of course a very expensive lens but there is a reason that it is considered one of the truly “pixie dust” magical Pentax lenses.

I have a Sigma 10-20 mm, variable aperture. It is an EX lens, well made, has good reviews, well priced l and takes nice shots. I think now it is only available in fixed f3.5 model.

I also liked the Pentax DA 10-17mm Fisheye. It's reasonably sharp and one is able to control the distortions for UWA nature scapes at 17 mm if you keep the horizon line in the center. This lens is essentially useless as a real estate lens and is why I ended up with a Lawoa 12mm for both the K1 and K3

How much does it vignette on "FF"? I get a lot of vignetting when I use my 10-20mm on my 35-mm Super Program, so I purchased an AdaptAll 17mm to use with the Super Program.
