I was to Shelburne Farms recently, Burlington area, 1400 acres conserved land from Vanderbilt estate on shore of lake Champlain, great place for a meal at the main house, trails, some wooded. Farm animals, cheese making.

Mt. Philo state park, same area, drive to the overlook at the top or walk the trail ,the steep trail. Philo Ridge Farm great place for lunch.

Camels Hump, steep trail, wooded, nice views.

I didn't go for birding so can't comment.

Mississquoi National Wildlife Refuge has alot of birding upportunity. Google “wildlife refuges in Vermont” and you will see many. If you like waterbirds, areas around the lake are great for egrets, ducks, geese, herons, and osprey.

In NH there’s Mount Washington, highest in the East with its antique cog rail train to the top. The train itself is very photogenic. Great views. Do bring something warm as there is a big temperature change when you get to the top. The historic Mt Washington Hotel at the foot of the mountain is a great example of turnof the century architecture. Best place to photograph the hotel is from the parking lot across the road at the motel— you get the hotel, it’s golf course and the mountain. North Conway, NH is a cute but touristy town. Take the Kancamangus Highway, beautiful Swift River runs alongside. Don’t miss the Flume or the Basin either. Take the Tram to the top of Canon Mountain and walk around the top. I could go on and on and...

Groton Lake (Stillwater State Park) great place to photograph loons. However, at this date, park is probably booked up. Willoughby Lake might be the most photographed lake in the state - after Champlain. I would consider Shelburne Farms a must for a photographer. Stowe and Smuggler's Notch are very scenic. Last weekend in July there is a antique and classic boat show in Burlington.

There's also a train ride through the NH mountains that starts in N. Conway. Look it up online first. ..many ways to do it. There's a 2 hr & 5 hr ride. I did the 5 hr and it was wonderful. There's someone telling you about the scenery outside your window and some history about the area. A few stops along the way to get out and stretch. I second the Kancamangus...lots of waterfalls that are roadside and a couple that are a short hike into see it. Jackson NH is also a real nice little village w/ a nice waterfall outside town.
Also in VT...Lake Willoughby and a hike up Pisgah to view the lake from the top. Hope you have anice journey and get lots of nice photos...let us see some when you get back!!

Try Googling “Birding the Northeast Kingdom” and you will find some very good information.
Happy Birding!

It’s one of the few areas to get Bicknell’s Thrush in summer. You’ll need to be at treeline. A park ranger (or eBird) might give you a reliable location. Enjoy!

Here is a very productive area...The Champlain Islands. This is low laying area of Vermont and a lot of Water. From Interstate 89 north take exit 17 and follow the signs to the islands. There are five islands beginning with South Hero (my favorite) and then Grand Isle, North Hero, Isle LaMott, and Alberg. In South Hero there are many places to park along the single road in and set up your telescope/camera. Many different species of birds and easy to spot.

Feel free to pm me if you would like to talk more about Vermont I am a life long resident (except for my USMC days at Cherry Point).

I also have a very nice Nikon field scope, about 1000mm, with two different eye pieces, dslr adapter, all in excellent condition and I want to sell.

If you're going to the Burlington/Mt Hfilo area, don't miss Mary's (near Bristol) for dinner. One of the best restaurants in the Northeast.

VTMatwood, that just brought back memories. Back in 1956 and early 1957 when I worked for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, we acquired some additional property along the Mississquoi River and I did a land survey in the Fall and an on ice survey in the winter.
