Ricardo - But, then - you were shooting with a 500mm Tele on the D810 - handheld - right? So, you can't expect the two pics to be comparable. If you'd done both comparison shots - of the bears walking along the tree - THEN - you'd have a basis for comparison … assuming you'd used the same lens, on both bodies!!!!

No I had a tripod for the 500mm/Nikon D810! (my 500mm f/4 is 8 pounds). In contrast the D7100 is handheld! (would carry the 500mm/Nikon D810 over my shoulder on the tripod and the D7100 was on a strap over my other shoulder so could easily switch from one set up to the other. However very different lenses on the two). So definitely not comparable, just that I was not wowed by the D810 using it like I would on a photographic outing and didn't think it was worth the cost or extra weight.

Thanks for the tips on labeling the photos I post. Can one see the EXIF data?

Yes, Todd - those things are also effective. But, telling someone to exercise more - if they are in a wheelchair (like you) doesn't make a whole lotta sense - so, I just focused on the food part of it. I was over 300 lbs. two years ago, and now, I'm just over 200 lbs. And, all I've done - is - change my eating habits to suit my lifestyle. I never go out to dinner. I cook everything myself at home. Cooking is easy, once you get the hang of it. And, if you only eat a plant-based diet - trust me - those extra pounds will come off - exercise or NO exercise … the secret is just NOT to eat anything which comes out of a package. They are all loaded with salt and sugar - neither of which - is particularly good, for you ….

Congrats on losing 100 pounds! I am sure if I had more self-control, I could lose some as well. However those carbs (bread, pasta, etc) are so tasty! I do try to do my 10,000 steps but the pace is too slow I am sure. I do mostly cook and eat at home, except for the occasional outing. But will be trying before my next trip!

Yes, that's true - but for some - a walk down the driveway to the mailbox and back, is sufficient. For others, a jog around the block - with the dog - may be well-suited. One has to do what they feel's in them to do.

Last year, I saw an ad on-line from a guy who was giving away a Nordic Track machine. I grabbed at the chance, but then, I tripped over his feet, as he and another fellow were helping to bring it up my back steps so it could be placed in the upstairs back hall, and I fell on the steps, and cracked my head open, and dislocated my elbow … so, I've been afraid to use it, ever since … but, I'm sure I'll get there, one day!!!

I knew working out was bad for one's health! A Nordic Track is great since it doesn't put as much weight on ones joints. When I go to the gym (which is less often than I should), I always do the elliptical.

Yes, this one IS an elliptical … how'd you know that, Ricardo? …

I have to get over my fear of the damn thing, and get on it, regularly - perhaps 10-15 minutes a day. I will!

I'd no idea the damned thing was so frickin' heavy!!! … It took FOUR of us - to lift it up the back stairs!!!

I'll get over it, soon … I'm sure!!!!

It's hard to believe they would drop all of their D3xxx and D5xxx series cameras. That's all of their entry level cameras. Right now, you can buy a D3500 kit with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lenses for $499. There couldn't be a mirrorless equivalent at that price.

I have a D500. They would have to improve the autofocus performance of their mirrorless cameras a lot to match the AF performance of the D5, D500, and D850. I rented the Z6 for two weeks not long ago. My D500's autofocus would run circles around it.

I have had the D3400 for two years now and have no complaints. I do not see me going to FF unless I start selling a lot of my photos or com into a windfall. I would like to upgrade in a year of so to a better DX.

Yes that could be a factor. I believe they recommend 1/125 as max shutter speed if you want to pull stills and have video that is not choppy. I have not experimented with it though...😳

If you can pull a sharp still off a video shot at a shutter speed of 1/125 of drag racing, I would be amazed! My shots of the falcons require a much higher shutter speed than that! But videos are fun to watch, get the sounds and feel that a still often misses. One of my experiments of shooting video of the falcons:

That 1/125 is if you want the video
to be smooth to I think. I might play with it but it is not a priority.

Just catching up with the older posts. CO by your statement about AF on the Z camera vs your D500 you say your runs circles around the Z. Do you mean speed of AF or quality of AF (sharpness)? Thanks,

I was referring to the AF performance. The Z6 seemed to have poor AF performance in even slightly dim light. It would hunt to acquire focus and often never achieve proper focus. I activated the low light focusing option but it didn't seem to help. It just slowed down the AF. My D500 would acquire focus right away. The D500 is superior for continuous tracking also. The image quality of the Z6 is stellar. At least as good as the D500. Maybe even a touch better. I would consider purchasing a Z6 but I would not be confident in its autofocus.

Great reply CO - thank you. Surely Nikon is going to fix the AF problem some day. At this point the Z6 is most likely my next camera. Hopefully the AF fix will be internal software upgrades... (I know - not likely).

Well, thanks, Ricardo … yes, I was staggered, for a while - didn't seem to be going, anywhere, with the weight issue, but, once I had both my cataract surgeries - it's made an enormous difference, and now that I can actually SEE, again - I'm quite a bit more active. Just 222 at my last doctor's appt., last Tuesday, and - undoubtedly, I will be lower, again, STILL, tomorrow - at the next one. No doubt, I will be down below 200 before this summer ends. But, still will have a way to go, before I can consider myself "normal" again … whatever that means. I don't know what is "normal" - these days. For some, 155 … for others, what - 180?

So, CO … your experience has been limited to the D500 DX DSLR vs. the Z6 FX MILC - right?

Did you have an opportunity to also use the Z7, and to compare THAT particular FX MILC w/ the D500?
