Wacom-Style Tablet Suggestions

I am in the market for a digital tablet that can do some graphic work and photo post processing. I have an old (20+ years) Wacom Digitizer but have misplaced the installation disks which would probably not work in my Windows 10 system, anyway. Unfortunately it is so old that it is no longer supported by Wacom so I am looking for suggestions for a moderately priced replacement. Any help is appreciated.

I've been using an xp pen deco 01 tablet on a computer running Windows 7 for the past few months. Not only for photo editing, but for a lot of digital illustration and animation projects. Works very well, and is relatively inexpensive. The drawing pen has 8192 levels of pressure, which is more than enough for just about anything. The eight programmable buttons on the tablet should also be plenty sufficient, I think. I certainly have never needed more than that.

"would probably not work in my Windows 10 system, anyway".

My Wacom tablet model CTE-630 is almost as old as yours and works perfectly in Windows 10. Like you, I tried to get help from Wacon with no success. I would suggest just plugging it in and wait and see if it connects ...., worth a try.

Thank you rook2c4. That was one of the tablets I found that should work for me. Living in a rural area without the ability to see and touch products, I rely heavily on others' experience so I appreciate your feedback!

Thank you SonyA580. I have tried everything I can think of but the PC does not recognize the tablet. My Wacom is a UD 0608-R (Digitizer), older than yours. The tablet is connected to the PC with a cable that converts the 9-pin connector to USB. Perhaps there is something in that setup interfering with the transfer of data but that is the only way I can marry the two pieces of equipment. I installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the first software from Wacom that did not give me an error message. I have tried wiping out all of the Wacom software from my PC so the computer could find and load the tablet as in plug-and-play. I disconnected my wireless mouse just in case that was the culprit and rebooted multiple times. Nothing has worked.

I would love to use an old piece of equipment that would probably serve my purposes, but I think it is time to consider a newer tablet. I appreciate your help.

I second the XP Pen. Its consistent and reliable and one heck of a lot cheaper that Wacom for the medium size area of 10"x6" .

You can get the software downloads from Wacom. They have all of the previous versions available on their website. There seem to be some versions that will not work on Win10 but read through the information on the Wacom site and you should be able to download what is needed. I had issues with an old model that I bought used off ebay and could never get the Wacom to work consistently. Wacom support thought it was a bad tablet. So I went after the XP-Pen and have been very happy with it.

Thanks, PGHphoto. I contacted Wacom who said there was no driver for my tablet because it was too old (they do not have those early drivers). I tried several of the driver downloads anyway and could not make it work so I am going to order a replacement. Your information is appreciated.

Have you tried the search feature here? I only ask because I could swear that not long ago we had a topic about a tablet that people liked that was cheaper than the Wacom line. It's also possible that I'm dreaming it all. Lol.

Thanks, Tea8. You are not dreaming. I just ordered the XP-PEN Deco 01 which was highly recommended by three fellow Hedgehoggers. I am truly grateful for the help everyone has given me!

I don't blame you. If it comes highly recommended by the hoggers then it's usually pretty great. I want to say though that what everyone was talking about wasn't the XP-PEN though, but it could have been. I'm thinking that the topic would have been a couple of months ago, as I don't have much time to be on here these days aside from the weekend. Enjoy your purchase when it comes in and I hope it helps with the editing process. (Years ago I thought about getting a Wacom or something similar. But my days for having time to really learn and do editing are behind me right now. Maybe in the future though, and it's exciting to know there are all these products that can help with the process.)

I have a Wacom Graphire 4x5. Has pen, mouse, tablet connects USB. The printed user manual is 78 pages in length. Paid $100. Couldn’t the hang of tablet editing and now probably edit 1 iPhone image a year if that. Will to let go for $50.
