Like others I have Luminar and Aurora HDR and have been impressed with what each can do. Recently I tried loading some larger mp files (jpgs from my D850) and have had some problems. I accept the long loading time (up to 90 sec so far) because the files are large (>22MP). But after working with the image, when I try to save (EXPORT) the final image, the program locks up my PC (Windows 10) and the only thing left to do is power-down and restart, losing all changes to the image.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem with larger MP files (I haven't with sub-20MP files). If so, how have you solved the issue?

File sizes of 22mp are not particularly large these days. Maybe your computer isn't up to the task. I don't use Luminar, but loading even 50mb files only takes a couple of seconds for any of the three different post processing software programs I use. What processor and video card are you using? And how much ram?

I have a D810 and use RAW to process. On my laptop (32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD) it take about 10 seconds to load a full RAW file and about 20 seconds on the desktop (12 GB and 2 TB HD). Both have WIN 10 Pro. No problem about it locking up or not storing the processed images.

Are you using Luminar 3.1? Also, Aurora HDR 2019 works fine.

That could be a problem, I know. But my point is that I have not had issues with LR, Photoshop, Capture, or PhotoLab with any of my D850 images. They load, they export/save without difficulty. Only the Skylum software seems to bog the PC (admittedly an older one) down and I was wondering if any other Hogs have seen this.

Are you using Luminar 3.1? Also, Aurora HDR 2019 works fine.

Actually, I have the 2018 versions of each of the Skylum programs. Some hardware issues prevented me from upgrading to a newer version.

I have a D750 with 24mp and it takes about 5 seconds to load 3 of those files into Aurora HDR. It might be your computer.

You might have old (not updated) Skylum software with which your newer 850 firmware is at least partially incompatible. Seems to me that when the 850 rolled out there as a flurry about firmware upgrades. To assure compatiility I'd check with Skylum and Nikon to make sure that I had the most recent stuff available.

Your hardware may be the choke point. I run both programs on an iMac with 64 GB ram and things are very quick.

I'm pretty sure the problem is your computer. I purchased Luminar early last year and was excited to try it out. It ran but sometimes was buggy (including refresh delays). Skylum released a few updates that fixed some problems but then it would not load and run on my pc computer at all. (not sufficient graphics and resources). I'm planning to upgrade my computer but I'm still running PS and LR without problems. I can't explain it but I've read that the process Luminar uses to manipulate graphic images is much more resource intensive than PS and LR.

Check your RAM. Had stability issues with L3. Found that I was running 6 gigs of RAM where 8 gigs is base requirement. Upgraded to 16 gigs and system is stable and should remain so for the future.

I use both PSE 14, and Luminar 3.1.2 running on Windows 10. My laptop is a few years old, with 8 GB of memory. It takes 5-10 seconds for >20 MB files to load in PSE14, and greater than 30 seconds to load in Luminar. Also, it takes 30-60 seconds to save an edited image in Luminar.

So, I definitely think it’s the performance of Luminar. Rather than buy a new laptop, what I’m going to do is replace my system HDD with a SSD, and probably increase memory to 16 GB. That should solve the problem.

Check the save file name. It may be too long.

How old is your computer? What processor, how much Ram, HDD or SSD, what OS are you using, which version of Luminar? All these will have impact on how your computer responds.

Here are the MINIMUM System Requirements for Luminar 2018 according to Skylum.

Processor Intel Core i5 or better
Memory 8 Gb RAM or more
Operating System:

I have an Intel i7, 64GB Ram, OS is WIN 10 64-bit, SSD, GPU with 6GB Ram and have no issues with Luminar or Aurora.

I had a number of crash issues with the 2018 version and so did many others. I stopped using the program and waited until Luminar 3 came out. I've been pleased with the results so far. I just loaded a 28 mp size file with no issues. They just did another update so I'm checking to see what they did. If you are able you should update to the latest version and see where that takes you.

Not important to you as a Nikon user but like other programs they still don't have the RAW converted for the new Canon .cr3 file from the R and RP series cameras. For some reason everyone is slow coming out with this.
