Indrajeet Singh Loc: Goa, India

Our business of building go karts and buggies is located in a rural area, in the state of Karnataka, adjoining Goa. We have taught and trained local people who are keen to build better lives. We have been quite successful in our endevour and today our factories are managed entirely by men and ladies, most of who are from poor farmer families and haven't been educated beyond the 7th grade of primary school.

The images posted herein are the work of a girl who requested to be taught photography and I have been training her and another lad for around 2 months now. Your honest views on her work will encourage her. She had never held a camera earlier. I take them out with me on Sundays and let them use my gear, they learn fast and certainly have made me happy with their progress. They have learned the basics about the camera, the different genres of photography, the effects Shutter speed, Aperture and ISO on the image and how to apply settings in different situations and conditions.

Also, they shoot all manual, except for Auto Focus and Auto WB. Their ability to learn and apply this knowledge is uncanny! Most of these are done using the D7200 and 200 f4D, which is brilliant, but a slow lens.

Will keep you posted of their progress.

Thank you for looking, your comments will be appreciated.

I like the first one because of the way his eyes were captured. It appears he wants to get the one that got away. The kingfisher is good in that everything about the bird is captured but there's a little blur. Don't know if the photographer moved or the camera was too slow. I really like the lilies; they are unique and well captured. Finally, I like the pensive monkey. The eyes were well captured.

Keep on practicing; you have the instinct for photography. Good work!

Thank you and your talented student. Obviously, my personal opinions here. The BIF is lovely. My favorites are:
Fisherman - l would like it cropped to focus more on the man. Not so much of the water.
Sepia image - it's thoughtful. At first I thought it was the tip of a spoon.
The monkey - although the wire is a little distracting to me it also indicates an environment.
Your student is curious - varied subject matter. She already has good command of the equipment. Plus she is very fortunate to have a teacher who is a great photographer and a generous soul. Thanks again. Ross
p.s. She will be very good. I would like to see more of her and your other students work.

Thanks for sharing your photos and story. There is a real life lesson for all in your concern for your employees/workers. The right attitude and a good heart makes this a better world. Micki, These are very impressive. Isn't it nice to see the world in a young persons eyes? The fisherman is a great character study. I really like the Kingfisher BIF. Buddies is comical and a great portrait. The lilies show a great eye for the unusual, and finally the little Spider Monkey is a great catch. All in All, Micki. You have helped some young people find their talent. Congratulations.
