The Golden State - Un-Green State - Ah heck! California

Thanks to the long cool rainy season we just had most of California including our So Calif mountains were Green. But the weather is getting warmer and the last rain that counted was some time ago so the transition to Gold (read dead brown stuff) is underway.

For those of you who haven't seen this part of the world.
The Mountains in the background are a North/North East slope so they don't get the full treatment from the sun and are still green, though a darker shade than a month or so ago. The foreground is a South/Southwest facing slope showing what it will all look like soon thanks to getting the full force of the direct sun all day long. Then as the summer goes on the grass will bleach out to an almost white shade of tan.

The trees and stuff in the middle will stay green because those are residential and shopping areas that get watered all year long.

Is that the 91 FRWY thru the middle of your scene? What street are you shooting from near Corona? Those are the Santa Ana Mountains in the distance? Everything is reversed from my view of the San Gabriel Mountains from the Ganesha Hills from Pomona.

Shooting over the back fence at a friend's house along Tesoro Way on top of the hills to the North East of the 91-15 interchange looking across the interchange towards the SW.
Actually looking almost directly over my house.
See attached: Shot picture from point A, my house point B and the arrow is aprx the line of sight of the shot. So that is the NW end of the Santa Anas.

Very cool. I kinda know your area from having worked at the Golden Cheese factory back around 1994. Are they still in business? I'm guessing not from what I'd hear at Albertson's Market who was one of their largest customers. Looking at the current street view pictures from Google it seems the area is under construction with what I remember being only still in the aerial images. I've got to tell you it was not a fun place to work.

I far more like the job I had at the Huntington Library and Art Galleries from 1980-92. Much more photogenic and with nicer and smarter people.

Golden Cheese shut down at the end of 2007, lack of milk supply as the dairy farms became sub-divisions and the farmers moved their herds to other parts of the state. Trucking milk in from up north was expensive and they lost money almost all of the time toward the end. Google them and you will find some articles from the "Press-Enterprise" about it.

I taught in East Los Angeles until June 30, 2007 and when the 91/71 were jammed I went through "cow country to get to the 71 up by the big Ford Dealer North of the Women's Prison. The last couple of years the dairy cows became few and far between.
