A couple years ago, my buddy Chuck, my Australian Shepherd named Gem (aka the Mutt) & I took a photo trip to the So. West. One of my goals was to go to Monument Valley, to the precise location where a portion of the movie "Forrest Gump" was filmed ... remember the scene where Forrest & his gaggle of followers are running & he stopped ... with Monument Valley in the background? Well I just had to get a shot of that.

The speed limit on that road is 75 mph, but everyone drives well over 80 mph there. The spot is near the crest of a hill, so traffic coming South & cresting that hill is usually going so fast, that they aren’t likely to be able to brake in time to avoid hitting someone in the road. There's very little time to react.

When we 1st arrived, a family was there taking photos. So I waited until they were done, then I went about getting my shots, which were quite different from their's. The entire time I was attempting to get my shot, Chuck was repeatedly yelling ... "Car!! Car!! Get out of the road!!" as cars would crest the hill behind me. Each time, I'd scramble to the side of the road. However I was eventually able to get the image I wanted, so it was worth the effort ... at least to me. However, unbeknownst to me until much later, while calling me foolish for being in the road, Chuck himself had gone out in the road & grabbed a shot of me taking my shots.

When I had finished & walked back to the car, I realized the family had stayed & watched me, apparently laughing the entire time ... & one of the girls decided the shots they had taken were not the ones she really wanted ... so out in the road she went!!!!!

Hope you enjoy the shots.
Frank

Thanks Frank, I'm doing well. I haven't posted any of the cruise photos yet, as I want to wait until I finish all of the post processing. I'm about 85% done, but have been gone a lot lately: 4 nights in Sisters Oregon, a day at home then 17 days in Hawaii (Oahu and Kauai, we got back 8 days ago). I've just started post processing about a thousand photos from the two trips. We're heading south to see both of our sons for a few days next week and then I'm back teaching two university classes starting a week from Thursday. I've also got several to post from our spring break trip to Charleston, Savannah and Manhattan (post processing is done). I hope to start posting the cruise photos within the next month. I've got to get them done, as I'm going to be spending two consecutive weekends at Laguna Seca Raceway next month (IMSA and IndyCar) and that will likely result in over 10,000 images.

DJ ... I'm tired just reading your itinerary!!!! Yea you!!!! Great job ... love it when I keep the pedal to the metal so to speak, so enjoy seeing you doing it. And I'll also look forward to your car shots. I'm a bit of a "gear head wanna-be" ... so love seeing the cars. My friend has build, rather rebuilt an old dragster ... a car that was once the # 1 in it's even in the world. He & a friend of his, who unfortunately passed away recently, rebuilt the car in honor of the fellow who originally built & drove it. I think the car eventually burned after the original fellow died. It will be raced as a "classic" because it lacks a lot of the stuff that technology has brought to cars today. But I can't wait to shoot that big bruiser roaring down the track!!! Good luck with all your To Do's ... & I'll continue to look for the cruise & especially for the race shots. Best to you.
