One has to wonder if men who are too rapidly approaching maturity enjoy an advantage in languages of the sort where the verb usually comes at the end of the sentence.

It seems that the sound activation switch of my aural receptors has slowed since retirement. I hear and recognize her voice immediately, but she is usually several words into her sentence before my intracranial processor can get the consonants herded into place and firmly attached to the proper vowel sounds. By that time I'm listening very carefully, in hope that there will still be sufficient significant content in the remaining part of her request/direction/comment for accurate analysis and appropriate response. That hope is often in vain - thus the embarassing: "What?"
