My D3200 took a dive when it accidentally got submerged on a supposedly calm raft float. Hoping it dries out but long term prospects are low. Any suggestions on next logical step up for a new camera body?

There are lots of entry level Nikon's above the D3200, it's just a matter of how much your willing to spend. You can get refurbished Nikon's for next to nothing.

Can you give us a few hints on whether you are staying with Nikon or another brand, DSLR or mirrorless, price to spend, new or refurbished, cropped sensor or full frame and what type of photographs do you like to shoot. Otherwise you will get a million answers.

I would recommend a refurbished D7200 but others will recommend the same camera if you liked the old one, all the way up to a D850.

Since you already have Nikon lenses, go Nikon to save money on lenses. I would suggest going to the Nikon site and seeing what is available in your price range - including the Nikon Refurbished site where they have models like the D7200 listed as still available. I have purchased refurbished straight from Canon twice and both were excellent cameras. I would assume Nikon can do just as well.

Now if you want to consider changing brands I would suggest the 80D or M50 (body and lens compact but APS-C sensor-with a 200 mm lenses one will go in the cargo pocket of military fatigues) from Canon's Refurb site - same warranty as new.

I bought a couple of used pristine bodies with lower shutter counts. You can save 20 - 40% off sites like Adorama.com or even at a local camera shop. If you're on a tight budget, look at the D7200, it really is a great general purpose camera. If you've got a couple of extra bucks, look at the D7500 or D500. If you want to go FF, then the D750 is a great bargain, and the D810 is a phenomenal camera. If you've got an extra $3k laying around, you cannot do better than a D850.

The next step up would be to get a camera with a pentaprism viewfinder. The D3xxx and D5xxx series Nikons have a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go to a D7xxx series or above Nikon you get a superior pentaprism viewfinder. The glass prism inside gives a larger, slightly brighter view through the viewfinder.

Nikon has instant rebates going on right now until midnight today (6/30). If you hurry, you can get a new camera at a discounted price.

The Nikon 5000 series cameras are very nice and have the articulating LCD screen. Good casual photographer level camera. Of course the D500 is a FINE camera.

Probably stay with same platform unless good reason to change.

If you were satisfied with the D3200, get another one. They are very cheap now.

Check D500 if you are into wildlife, the D750 as a full frame great for landscape and both wonderful all around.

I know I'm getting old and probably more grumpy, but Do you realize how many different suggestion you might get about replacing your camera? Why does it seem that so many people are too lazy to use their own mind, do a little research, and figure out what they want for themselves instead of asking others to make up their mind for them? It's like that stupid commercial on tv where two guys are sitting on a couch and one asks the other, "say do you by any chance know some contractors that do this or that? The other guys says, yes, I believe I do know some that do that! The first guy says, GREAT! Get me some names and numbers, make an appointment for me for next Thursday, and do some background checks. Wow, look at me getting some stuff done"! It seems like we are getting so dumbed down, that we always need someone else to do things for us that we should be doing for ourselves. Sorry for the rant, but I see way too much of this stuff.

There's an ad here for a D750 at a great price. Just got mine a month ago and love it.

Jump on that deal before it's gone.

if you liked the D3200, you will love the D3300. If it comes with the usual AF-S kit lens, make sure it's the VR II version, or the AF-P.

If most of your lenses are DX, consider a factory refurbished D7200. If you have some FX lenses, you could make the leap to a D750, which is a great body at reasonable cost for full frame.
