Need Help in Lightroom.
Just changed from JEP to Raw. It states it can not open this format. Also might have imported it wrong. Other photo in JPEG did open on this same card. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.
LR software is 'hard coded' to the universe of cameras that existed when the software was created / last updated. So, did you visit the Adobe website and find the support page that lists every camera by model number for the minimum LR software needed to process your camera's RAW files?

What camera and what version of Lightroom are you using?

Can't you accomplish the same thing with Adobe Camera RAW if your installation of LR is not supported for direct import?

Let's get some details from the OP before we get too far with solutions. I'm coming around to just converting the RAW files to DNGs if you don't want to update your LR software.
Nikon d500-------Lightroom is 6 years old.

So, you can get on the subscription plan or change your tools.
Or, simply download Adobe's DNG converter, preprocess your NEFs to DNG and import to LR and move on with your editing in your current LR software.

Beyond updating RAW support for newer camera models, other improvements to LR over the past 6 years are pretty significant.

You've spent decent money on a wonderful camera to get great shots and yet you won't spend $10 a month to enhance those great shots? It does not make sense. It would seem that you should either pay for the LR/PS subscription (my choice) or use another one of the many wonderful high-end software applications available for purchase.

Although I agree wholeheartedly with the comment about getting the subscription, what version of the software are you using? My guess, your software is too old and probably won't be upgradeable to utilize the RAW files from the D500. Best of luck.

Robert, I'm unclear where you're going with your question. Lightroom uses the same engine for editing that ACR uses. Are you thinking the OP has a recent version of Photoshop (to utilize ACR), but an old version of Lightroom?
Have LRCC no problem with conversion

My pushback on DNGs has been the step where the original RAW is discarded and you're left with Adobe's decisions about what has been striped away from the RAW when creating the DNG. I've analyzed and presented in other posts the Canon data removed by Adobe that prevents further detailed analysis of your EOS body settings. Similar data is removed from all camera types.
But, a few minor tweaks to the conversion settings in the DNG converter and you can embed the full RAW file into the DNG. You get a bigger file, but you don't discard your original RAW should at a future date you want / need that RAW rather than Adobe's decisions made when creating the DNG. The future is a long time with many unforeseen twists and turns where that RAW may be what is needed.
The DNG converter is free, downloads fast and operates fast as well so it is not a cumbersome task to add into your RAW workflow. You can even specify an older DNG output standard to assure compatibility with older versions of LR back to v1.
If nothing else, run some experiments with this free option as input into a decision to spend more money on new software.
