On my recent visit to Australia, I traveled on The Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin. There were three "excursions". The first was a stop just before dawn in the middle of the desert so we could observe the sunrise there, and it didn't disappoint.
For those who don't know, The Ghan is a train that travels between Adelaide and Darwin that takes three days to complete. The train is about a kilometer long. In Adelaide, the cars are divided in half at the station so no one has to walk so far to board their cars. I was in Car A in the half parked to the right of the half next to the station seen in this picture. The train doesn't turn around at either end of the trip with the exception of the engines. So, Car A in Adelaide is at the very end of the train heading north to Darwin, with the exception of the employee's cars right behind it. Then, on the trip back to Adelaide, Car A and the employee cars are right behind the engines.
Because of weight and space considerations, I took my Lumix FZ-1000.

Excellent shots, Cathryn--'bout time you started posting a few of your Aussie pics, lol.
Both are nice; love the train shot with its great depth and leading lines.

So far, I've only processed about half of them! But I ought to start posting some, and I ought to start with those taken around Maclean!

Thank you for the comment! When heading north at the end of the long train, I noticed people standing outside their vehicles watching the train go slowly by the railroad crossings. The speed was much slower around populated areas than in the middle of the desert. So the people had a long wait! Even the folks watching the train go by at a higher speed as in this picture, they'd stop to watch. No railroad crossing here.
.
The train was moving, and when moving, it's difficult to get a sharp shot. Sorry.
