Sorry to intrude but Marine is always capitalized whether you are angry at him or not.
For the same reason I personally always capitalize Corpsman as I also served two tours in Vietnam.
But the real issue here has nothing whatsoever to do with military service and everything to do with the OP’s granddaughter.

I was in the Marines 60-67. The last 4 years in 1st Force Recon. I was on my 3rd tour and Tet sent me home a then discharged. Our strike teams always had our corpsmen. None of them were like you.

My last ten years, since I retired, I spent in the Marine Corps league. I did on average 250 hrs of Honor Guard Duty (vet funerals) annually . I spent years with & caring for Marines. Fortunately VERY FEW OF THEM were like YOU!!!
