It's not every day I get the opportunity to see a bunt played out in this manner. The ball just dropped dead to the ground. No one could get to it in time, not even the catcher.

Nice shot. I like the “old school” look of your PP

I remember my HS coach’s rules for bunting: only bunt strikes unless there’s a runner on 3rd...then bunt any pitch ‘cause the runner’s coming. From the position of the bat it looks like it was a squeeze play...if they were following Coach Donahue’s rules😊

The barrel is too high in this image to be a "perfect," bunt.
*sigh* what a lost art. Bunting has gone the way of Cursive.

Visually, perhaps, but from the picture and description, it sure sounds perfect. Ball goes down and dies out of reach of all players, including catcher. Sounds pretty good. We don’t know where the pitch was in terms of height, but if the the result is as described, then it could be perfect - relative to that pitch. JMHO

Awesome capture Dave... timing is everything...
Only suggestion would be to dial back the vignette just a tad...
and selectively raise the hitter's luminescence slightly instead to pull the viewer to this player...

Might study the images in Sports Illustrated etc for go-bys for publication quality...
Google Image Search is an amazing tool
Just a thought...

Thank you for sharing... I'm certain this player is elated with your work....

Nonsense. The result was a perfect bunt, regardless of form. And, respectfully, without knowing the outs and other base runner's situation, your statement would be incorrect, inconclusive at the very least.. Was it a squeeze play? Suicide squeeze? Two strikes and she had to bunt on orders from coach? In those cases you bunt the pitch wherever it is! Control of the barrel is what makes for a soft "catch" or "cushion"of the ball, allowing her to drop it dead, straight down.
A good fastpitch pitcher has a rise-ball or often comes in at the letters, so you better get that bat to the top of the strike zone, or you will never catch the top half of the ball. And with all that slapper silliness in fast pitch softball, I don't know any batter keeps their head still and eyes on the ball!

Thanks Dannj, I wouldn't say it was a squeeze play, it was to advance the runner from second to third.
