Not a magazine, but you might want to consider Bryan Peterson's book, "Understanding Exposure". I'm no expert on photography books but it sure helped get me off to a flying start.

Best book on the market to understand the exposure triangle. Once you understand this, the sky is the limit!!

Hello Everyone.
I’m new to the forum.
I’m asking for advice you might have on what magazine subscription I may look into. I’m looking for something to gain more knowledge on a bit beyond the fundamentals.
I am not a professional photographer.
I shoot with a Nikon D750. I have a kit lens AFS Nikkor 24-120/f4 VR and I’m purchasing a 50 mm prime soon.
I’m interested in existing light scenes.
Thank you for your help.

I would use the internet for learning.
Lynda.com Tons of tutorials. You can subscribe by series, month, or year. Not Free
YouTube searched with "Introductory Photography". You'll have to search for what you need. In some cases excellent, in other cases you get what you pay for - nothing.
Adobe You Tube Channel. This covers all their products.

Now for stimulation of your forebrain consider:
OnLandscpe a landscape oriented magazine.
LensWork which is more geared to the creative side of photography in a traditional sense.

My $0.02 worth.

I, too, receive Outdoor Photographer, as a poor substitute for Shutterbug, which went out of business. I will not renew my subscription, as the articles are non-substantive fluff, and the who magazine can be read in an hour or so. The only thing valuable in it is the list of advertisements at the back.

None. In 1979, there were plenty of good magazines. But today, the Internet provides several orders of magnitude more information. Google your topic of interest. Don’t kill trees.

You will, of course, have to cross-check every source, but we have had to do that (or should have done that) all along.

This may or may not interest you. This online photography subscription has several contributors who give you ideas, inspiration, tech information, and sometimes spotlight a subscriber and their photos as well. You get about 3 emails a week on different subjects from different contributors. Check it out here:

Thank you for that link. It looks interesting and I signed up for it. hoping to gain some more and new information.

The British version of Outdoor Photography is well worth a check. Not cheap but good.

Agreed. I don't understand why Great Britain, with a fraction of the population of the United States can support so many excellent, high quality photographic magazines, and the United States, with its huge market for photographic products (i.e., target rich environment for advertisers) can't manage to produce even one.

Outdoor Photographer - Geared to the landscape - wild life photographer, so existing light is mostly what it is about. It recently ran a 3 part series called "The Art of Seeing" by Marc Muench - one of the best discussions of photography I have read, covering composition, contrast and color, exposure, and more.
It is one of the few magazines I look through the moment it arrives.

Outdoor Photographer is more about shooting landscapes and wildlife, but I find it useful. It's also very inexpensive for the Amazon Kindle version, less than $10 for a full year.
