Perfect Resize...was Genuine Fractals...
On my previous computer, I had a program from On1, initially called Genuine Fractals, then changed to Perfect Resize. But on this computer, I can't really find it. Do any of you have and/or use Perfect Resize?
I googled for perfect resize and it seems now it maybe a separate purchase from On1
Thank you very much. I just went there and downloaded an upgrade.
By the way, to return the favor, for any and all reading this post, IF you've ever had an image that you wanted to increase in size, and found it became pixelated, Perfect Resize is the ideal program that actually "reads between the pixels", interpolates what would have been there, puts it in, and you end up with a greatly improved image file. It's a great product.

But....How does it know?
Based upon my past, and I began with a 20D Canon, I wanted to make an 11x14, but saw pixelation. I selected 240 dpi, and Perfect Resize did the rest. The outcome was wonderful.
I was reading up on demosaicing, they said that 75% of the final file is 'made up' in a sense, because each pixel starts either red, green, or anothed green, or blue. The software takes a red pixel for example and looks to the near green and blue neighbors to decide what color the red pixel really is.
It's the first time I've heard of 75%, but I have to tell you, from prior experience, the results were amazing. Another example, I would search the Internet for an image I'd want to use in my class. It would be expanded to a 6' tall image. Perfect Resize made the image much smoother for projection onto a screen that size.

Interpolation. The software doesn't just look at individual pixels - it looks at sequences and patterns. As a rough example using a linear gradient (a steady rate of change of values), if a blue pixel has a value of say, 40 and the blue pixel next to it has a value of 30, the software will calculate that a theoretical blue pixel half way between the two would have a value of 35. And the software isn't limited to linear gradients. If the change of values is gradual or sudden, or gradual changing to sudden, the software should be able to accurately predict the appropriate in-between values.
Interpolation is a mathematical tool used to accurately predict in-between values, and it's used in other fields such as audio.
R.G., you explained that very well.
Math teacher here.
If you have the On1 raw editor it has a resize section built in to it. I suspect they use the same fractal based upsizing/downsizing as they do in Perfect Resize.
Since you sound very familiar with On1, I'm having trouble getting my download activated. I'm using the license number for my last computer (4 years ago), but it doesn't seem to be recognized now. Any thoughts?

Not an expert but.... Since it's been a while you may have downloaded a different version of Photo Raw. Perhaps the licence number applies to an older version. There's a difference between getting updates and getting an upgrade. The current software is called On1 Photo Raw 2019. If your licence number applies to an older version you'll have to pay for an upgrade - or alternatively find out if the older version is still available for download.
I just received an e-mail reply (who does that on a Sunday?), and it states that I'm able to download the ON1 Photo 10.5.2, complementary. They state that Perfect Resize is built into it, but after downloading it, I'm not finding it. I suppose I just need to search more within that software.

In Photo Raw 2019 it's in the bottom right hand corner. In your version it may be menu-based, in which case you'll just have to go looking
.
OnOnePhotoTen is what they sent me, and it's in the top menu choices. Works nice, again.
For anyone who wants to make massive enlargements, this is THE software to use. I've sent off files, and had 36"x48" prints made. Very nice resolution.
And thanks for the hints R.G.
BTW, I'm listening to ClassicFM and you guys seem to have your share of wet weather, or hot weather, or both. True?
