Beautiful; Canyonlands is one of my favorite national parks. Can't wait to get back to that area.

Was it Newspaper Rock you were trying to find? We visited it on an Elderhostel tour back in 85. I took some shots but had the wrong lens on my camera, a 70-200 zoom.

That's a great question rich1hart ... the only "Newspaper Rock" that I was personally familiar with, is in the Petrified Forest Nat'l Park in AZ which I showed in Part 3. Your photo, while it appears somewhat similar in nature to that one, has different drawings on it. So there is more than one Newspaper Rock. I wish I'd seen the place you shot. It looks incredible. What is crazy, is that while in Moab, we tried to look up these sites on my iPhone but came up empty. However, when I just Googled it now, the site you shot popped right up as a Utah State Monument!! It's further So. of Moab than the one I shot at Moonflower Canyon. So that would have been a site I wanted to see!!!!! I guess I wasn't smart enough to Google Newspaper Rock nor follow the directions I got from Cany143. What's even crazier is when I Google Petroglyphs in Moab now, all sorts of sites come up. Damn!!!! That's disappointing. I don't know what I did wrong but now I want to go back for a "Do Over." I find it very moving to be where the "Anchients" walked. So this is now definitely on my Bucket List. Thanks for the comment & the photos.

Well, I'm no Spring Chicken as the saying goes ... so I hope you will get out there & see some of these places. My photos are a very poor imitation of the read deal. Nothing like being out there & listening to the quiet ... & seeing the sun rise or set over some of the many beautiful spots around this country & Canada. I can't wait to get back out there!!!! Thanks for the visit & comment.

This is a series of posts using photos from a recent 6+ week trip I took around the Western US & Canada, with a college buddy Chuck & my Australian Shepherd Gem, aka "the Mutt." I'd like to thank all who have looked at the prior posts & commented.

As noted in the last post, I am sharing the photos a bit out of sequence. After driving by Capital Reef on our way to Canyonlands, we elected to go back to CR to shoot more shots. So these shots of the Canyonlands were taken "in the middle", but to avoid jumping back & forth, I decided to group the shots. We had visited Canyonlands previously in 2016, but got "chased away" by blowing sand. So we drove back specifically to shoot some photos from the Green River Overlook ... a breath taking vantage point. And shooting on the edge of the canyon, means no one ever walks in front of you ... or if they do, they don't "hang around" long.

While we were there, we went looking for some Petroglyphs that Cany143 posted here on UHH. I'd guess you might judge me as a bit directionally challenged, as I wasn't able to locate the ones he suggested, however we did locate some at another site. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing to see those beautiful treasures had been defaced in more recent times. But I was able to capture a few photos.

While we were at the Green River Overlook, we also encountered the 2nd bride of our trip ... as she was returning to her car. They certainly picked a beautiful spot to perform their wedding ceremony.

After we left Canyonlands & finished our 2nd visit to Capital Reef, we had a quick visit to the Glen Canyon Nat'l Recreational Area before driving to Cortez, CO, for our next scheduled visit to Mesa Verde ... one of my favorite of places. Each time I go, I'm amazed at the craftsmanship, engineering skills & beauty of what the "anchients" created there.

I hope you enjoy these.

Frank
