This is the 5th in a series of posts using photos from a recent 6+ week trip I took around the Western US & Canada, with a college buddy Chuck & my Australian Shepherd Gem, aka "the Mutt." I want to thank all who have looked at the first 4 parts & commented.

I ended Post # 4 in Williams, AZ on Rt 66 where we stayed while touring the Grand Canyon for the next few days. Our original plan was to go to the North Rim, however it was closed due to snow. So instead, we spent our time touring the So. Rim & thoroughly enjoying ourselves. I was struck when we first got to the canyon, that no matter how many times I go there, it always seems "grander" than the last time. We started out with a late afternoon, early evening shoot ... which turned into a night shoot.

As an aside, after seeing some posts on UHH, I had purchased a crystal ball in order to try to shoot a sunrise at the canyon ... the sunrise wasn't very colorful, so the most "exciting" part was seeing someone next to me accidentally bump the tripod the crystal was sitting on & watching it roll off the tripod (seemingly in slow motion) ... hit the edge with a fine spray a fragments "sparkling" in the sun ... & then bouncing down into the canyon!!! So much for that experiment. ;)

From there, it was North to Grand Staircase/Escalante Nat'l Park ... a park I had never visited & it was another beautiful jewel of a park. While there, we took a day to revisit Bryce Canyon (we'd spent several days there in 2016) ... it was just too close & too beautiful not to stop for a quick visit.

We shot a great sunset at the Sunset Arch & ended our stay in Escalante enjoying a sun set at the Devils Garden ... a beautiful spot with what I believe are called "hoodoos".

I hope you enjoy these,

Frank

Thank you Ronsh ... & yes, it was a great trip. In fact, several friends have suggested it was the trip of a lifetime to which I've objected ... because I want more trips like that one. There is so much to in this country & our neighbor to the North!!!!

Thank you DragonsLady ... I appreciate you saying that ... unfortunately that shot didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. It is a bit too grainy, although I attempted to "subdue" both in lightroom & NIK Dfine2. But I was not able to get the sky to come out the way I hoped it would. But I agree that it gives a different view of the canyon ... it was so amazing to see it under the moonlight.

You're right ... it is interesting. I've just scratched the surface with the few shots I shared. If you have not been, you owe it to yourself to go. There are so many things to see & do there ... & it sits in between so many other beautiful spots ... Zion, Capital Reef, Canyonlands, Bryce & other parks & natural areas are within a few hours drive away at the most. Grandstaircase/Escalante also seemed to be more relaxed (fewer rules) than some other Nat'l Parks, which I liked. And great people all over that area of the country.
