New to the forum, not photography. Been taking pictures all my life. Mostly cheap, easy to use cameras. From film to digital point and shoots. Mainly to preserve an occasion or event. A birthday party, vacation, hunting or fishing trip. Stuff like that.

3 years ago I picked up my first DSLR. A used Canon XTi and a couple lenses. Took it to the local zoo the next day. Even in Auto mode, that was the best photos I'd ever taken! I was hooked. Fell in love with wildlife photography, and the money pit began. Lol. My signature has the current equipment.

Heard about this place on another forum I belong to. Thought I'd check it out. I'll post some photos I'm proud of, and I'll chime in if I can help someone. Thanks for having me.

Welcome Ray. I am a Minnesota expatriate since 1965 living in California. I grew up in Minneapolis. When I got on the plane to California it was -35 degrees (this was pre-wind chill factor days) and I have never returned for even a visit; although I would like to during fishing season (not ice fishing). Minnesota is a photographer's paradise provided that you like cold winters and mosquitoes in the summer. I wish you well and look forward to seeing your photographs.

Welcome Ray, I myself was a Newbie to DSLR Photography, I own a Nikon D3300 with 4 Lens. My favorite 2 are my Nikon 50mm 1.8g and my Nikon 18-140 3.5-5.6. It has been almost 3 years now, I have learned quite a lot about my Camera and Photography, so maybe I humbly can say I am an "Advanced" Newbie now. Still have things to learn, it will be an Unending journey indeed.

Thanks. Been here 56 years and don't mind the cold. Might as well make the best of it. That might change as I get older. In the summer I do spend a lot of money on bug and tick spray.

You should come back for a fishing trip. You'd love it. In May five of us head north for a week in search of walleye. Three different lakes, Hattie, Upper Red and Lake Of The Woods. Slammed them this year. One for the story books, as they say.

Fish a lot of other lakes the rest of the year. Yes, I ice fish too. Lol.

When I lived there, we use to go to Mille Lacs for walleyes and northerns of course and Lake Winnibigoshish for musky, walleyes and northerns for vacations. We also spent a lot of time on Lake Minnetonka and Lake Calhoun since we lived a block away.
