I've read that this bird is declining due to habitat loss...we have two of them in the yard at the same time almost daily. There is no easy way that I know of to determine gender.
Gorgeous photo, Joer. Love to know what camera and lens. How close is the bird?

Thanks for asking.
Sony A7R3 and 100-400 f4.5-5.6 @ 400mm, f8, 1/250s, ISO 800, flash and cropped. About 25' distant. One main advantages of a high MP camera is the ability to extend reach by cropping while maintaining image quality.
The image was shot during overcast/low light hence the flash.
Great equipment optimized by one who knows how to use it. Very nice.
Excellent shot, Joe! I've never see one in the wild.

Joe, my books do not even try to tell any differences. Love the photo.
