I have backpacked, hiked, photographed and visited over 45 National Parks, from Denali to the Everglades, Acadia to Yosemite. Of them all, my favorite, by far, is Utah's Capitol Reef National Park. As the last Superintendent said to me once, "it has everything that Zion has, slot canyons, giant Navajo sandstone domes, deep narrows, everything but the crowds". For me the combination of stunningly spectacular scenery and the opportunity for solitude and real exploration make this the ideal park. Here's some images from this wonder, more to come in a few days.

For me, Capitol Reef was a surprising gem. On our SW tour, my wife felt just as you do, that this was her favorite. (

No longer, the word is out! 😎
Nice!
Good morning. I first visited CRNP in 2009 during a road trip around America. I saw it on a map I bought in Green River, Utah. I thought to myself, "Okay, I'll take this alternative route on my way to my room in Richfield, to give this national park a look-see." Eleven hours later, I dragged my butt into my room. Once near and in CRNP I could not stop taking pictures of this repository of natural beauty. And I had not even gone on the scenic road that winds through it. Since then, I have visited CRNP several more times. I can highly recommend this national park for its views of dramatic natural beauty. Take the scenic road for sure.

That last photograph is just breathtaking!
Thank you. Your word "breathtaking" about sums up my response to this unique place for viewing and photographing natural values.
Now that I own a four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicle, I want to do off-road excursions in CRNP.

Very nice.... Thanks for sharing......
Great photos! We are heading there on Thursday.
We are just sitting here enjoying our second morning cup of tea pondering about making a visit to CRNP. It’s approximately 900 miles Southeast of us; three-day drive I guess. Something that we should try and do while we can. Not into hiking or camping but I am sure still a place to go. We love the wilderness!
