Had to look that one up, thank you. Participated in an adult memory match class the other day. A lecture on the written Chinese language. The alphabet is made up of symbols representing actual things like man, woman, etc. Then these symbols are associated in the overall symbol with tree, food, etc. allowing a thought to be written and be read. I forget just how many of these symbols make up the Chinese alphabet but there are many!

And that's why I could never learn Chinese--the memory required is way beyond my limit.

Just an aside. Many years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the mammals lab at Emory U. in Atlanta. They were testing for abilities for computing in monkeys. One side of the huge cage was made up of keys with symbols, that the monkeys pushed. If they pushed the right sequence, a food reward would drop into a slot at the bottom. At one point, it became an actual competition as to which monkey could hit the combination first. They put my typing skills way down. They were fascinating to watch.

I was given a "cheat" sheet and I still had difficulties in doing the correct sequence.

Their "keyboard" had a quite few more symbols than seen above.

Yes it is Korean. There is only 24 characters in the Korean language. They have double consonants and special vowels but they are only combinations of the original 24. The big letters on top could be Romanized as "on nyong ha say yo" it simply means Hello the characters on the bottom the group to the left is pronounced "nae" and means yes or affirmative the last group is really hard to Romanize because of the top character in the center. We just don't have a sound for it in English but it could sound something like "ee dum un" which means name. So the overall thought would be to name or identify the pictures depending on how the game is laid out.

I bet they were fun to watch. But I'm glad they weren't around when I took typing in high school.

Thanks, waegwan. Korean (actually, any no-Romance language) looks difficult to learn. But I do know one word, and it's applicable: kamsamnida.
