Back in the early '70s I took a nine-day raft trip through the canyon. From above, the canyon looks rather desolate, but when you're down in there, it's amazing the amount of life (and wildlife) that abounds. The side canyons often have small waterfalls that drop into pools. And the one thing that really still stands out in my memory is where the Big Colorado and the Little Colorado rivers meet. The day we happened to reach that point, the rivers were undisturbed (meaning, there hadn't been anything that caused the water to get churned up). The Little Colorado was a turquoise blue (due to all the minerals in it), and the Big Colorado was an emerald green. You could see the two rivers blending into each other. It was definitely a sight to see!
