RAW software for Sony DSC-RX10 Model III

Hey there Hoggers. I've got Sony's RX-10 Model III bridge cam, and I've just started shooting in JPEG + RAW. I"m discovering that my version of Photoshop (CS-V6, not the subscription model) is incompatible with the version of Adobe Camera RAW needed to process the ARW raw files from the RX-10. You know the dreaded Adobe saw, "NOT SUPPORTED". So I was trying to find a 3rd party app that would let me download and process the ARW files. I've been trying to get Camera One (Sony camera version) from Phase One to work with my Windows 7 Ultimate/SP1 computer, but I keep getting an error message saying Camera One doesn't want to work. I've had my trusted IT guy try to figure it out, and he can't find a solution either to make the Camera One software work. Frustrated, I'm a the point of requesting a refund of PHase One. But I was just wondering if other RX-10 Mod III users out there might have found another solution- in particular one that might be compatible with older Adobe software (CS-6). Please clue me in. Thanks for your help in advance.

First, I think you mean CaptureOne.
Second, you are trying to use a version of CaptureOne that is, in all likelihood, designed for Windows 10. You should write to PhaseOne support for advice on this.
Third, RawTherapee and DarkTable and Digikam can use those raw files. However, I have no idea if their current versions will work on Windows 7.

Have you considered giving up now on "7"? It is going unsupported by Microsoft in January. Windows 10 usually runs faster than Windows 7 even on the same computer.

How much RAM does your computer have? Is it enough for CaptureOne?

Capture One for Sony is great software.

Otherwise there is a solution that will allow you to use your old PS6. Download Adobe's free DNG converter and you can convert your ARW files to DNG which will open in PS6.

I wholeheartedly suggest Capture One Pro Sony. I have used DXO, Lightroom, On1 and none compare. The computer I use is running Windows 7, and there is no issue - in fact, I just downloaded the free 12.1 update and it runs just fine. I use Lightroom and Photoshop for everything else, though I find that as good as the images are out of C1, they can still use a little microcontrast enhancement, and other general image finishing tasks that involve healing brush, content aware, and the occasional masking. Image quality is pretty good out of C1, but it can often be improved in subtle ways that cannot be done at all in a raw converter.

The other alternative is to use stop using 7 yr old software and get current.

Use the current (and free) DNG converter from Adobe. It will non destructively convert your Sony files to Adobe files that will open in your (old) version of Photoshop.

Adobe DNG converter. Simple and free. I make a copy of the RAW file I cannot open then convert it to DNG. If for some unknown reason I someday need or want the the original I have it. In the meantime I use the DNG file.

I use the free Capture One Express for Sony with the same camera you have for my Sony processing. It is currently running on a PC which is running Windows 7 professional with only 8MB of Ram. Not the fastest setup, but it works. No idea why yours is not working. You might want to uninstall then reinstall the software. Seems to me it should work for you.

I also have the same camera and just recently downloaded the free version of Capture One Express, but have yet to process any raw images, which brings me to my question: Using Raw on the RX10 III, do you see a significant improvement in IQ vs JPEG? Thanks

That really depends on how good a job I can do editing a particular raw file. Sony does a good job in camera overall but I find that sometimes a raw will give me more details. I shoot raw +jpeg and if I do not intend to enlarge much and if I am happy with the jpeg, so be it. If I think the shot is special, I will usually process the raw and see what I can do with it. Often sky shots with clouds come out much better in raw.

Thanks Hoggers. I'll checkout Adobe's free DNG converter, and Sony's Imaging Edge. I suspect there was some wierd incompability with my older Windows 7 computer and the Capture One (for Sony software). I know, I know. Get with the program and update my OS to Windows 10, but I'd prefer NOT to do that unless it was absolutely necessary. I"m just now exploring RAW image manipulation now, and RAW isn't a vital part of my workflow, however, I wanted to see if there were any other alternative solutions in the interim. Thanks again.
