I plan to visit Yellowstone and that the Teton's in October. I know several of you reader's live in that area. Care to share some of your favorite shooting spots, and which are the best time of day.....morning or evening for landscapes? I've been there before, but never in autumn.
Thanks!
Hi Wanda,
Personally I like the Lamar Valley in the fall. Also in the cold morning the steam from the gueysers <SP> tends to freeze to the plants, trees & sage brush making for really cool frost-covered-items type shots. In October go prepared for any type weather from warm/sunny to snow (sometimes all in the same day). Take care & ...
Wanda be sure and stop at "Wild By Nature Gallery" in Jackson Hole and speak with Henry Holdsworth who is a great pro photographer and he knows the area very well. His advice would bring some great locations and correct time for best results!

In Yellowstone Hayden valley and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone are my favorites. Early morning is always best for crowds and animals...although by October the crowds have dramatically thinned out.
Jenny Lake is my favorite in the Tetons. Morning is best for them too as you are looking west.
September is usually a little nicer and the elk are bugling.
I haven't been over there recently but forest fire smoke is a problem in Idaho right now. Good chance it will clear up by October.
My wife and I are heading out on 9/20. We picked up a couple of books on Amazon.
Photographing Yellowstone National Park by Gustav W. Verderber
Photographer's Guide to Yellowstone & the Tetons by Joseph K Lange
We also bought Yellowstone Treasures by Janet Chapple. My wife said she thought it was the comprehensive book on Yellowstone she has seen.

If you want to try for Moose the best place I have found is is in Grand Teton Park below the Jackson Lake dam on the north side of the road. You can also find them along the river there sometimes.
Thank you MtnMan, graydog, warrior, Bobelot, and AlBeaty. I have written down your fav. spots in my notes to take with, and warrior, snow doesn't bother me as long as we don't get stranded!! Maybe the snow will come a tad late this year, we can hope! Would love to see some moose, and MtnMan, I have a few books I've borrowed also. Good luck to you on your trip out graydog!
Oh, one more I forgot to mention. While you are driving from Jackson to Grand Teton (if you go that way) you will pass a pullout at the spot Ansel Adams took his famous photo of the Snake River. Still about the same and you can do it in color...
Thanks MtnMan. I added it to the list!
