There was a post earlier from gentling about getting a photo frame for 15,000 images which got me thinking.
Have an old iPad3 that got replaced a few years back by a laptop (which is hugely more useful) but meant the iPad lingered in a draw without a specific use for it.
When we got front and rear security cameras at home I got an iPad mount off ebay and ran a 5v USB cable to it beside the front door to be the display/monitor for those cameras - just swipe to change view and see who's knocking.
But it was a bit of waste of a really great device just doing that, even though I still occasionally used it to check the weather and weather radar before going out, messages and maybe the calendar to see if I was supposed to be somewhere instead of out walking the dog.
So I checked out how iPads went as photo frames and found these instructions which worked fine for me -
https://9to5mac.com/2017/11/13/how-to-turn-ipad-into-best-digital-photo-frame/Photo of the finished result attached - kinda pleased to add some functionality and creative display to an oldie but a goodie, without spending an additional $. Sorry for the ordinary image - just grabbed an old point and shoot to take it.
Of course there will be debate in our house about whose / which images get put in the slideshow, but that is a debate you were always going to have ...
Thanks for that! I have an old iPad 2 that had been gathering dust since I got a Kindle. Now I have a use for it.
My old iPad takes good video. I got an adaptor that lets me mount it to a tripod and an adaptor to add a microphone for better sound.
Interesting! I have an old one gathering dust after being replaced by a new guy.

Cool. I have an old iPad Mini-first generation-I still play some games on, etc, but will probably re-purpose as described above. I will be buying a new iPad later this year, as I need a higher OS to do some of what I now want to do. The Mini 1 topped out at IOS 9.3.5 I need IOS 11, or higher, for the photo editing, etc, I want now. I am torn between an iPad Mini 5, and an iPad Pro 11 inch.
You can use it as a night light or to play your music collection. The older ones tended to not go very high on volume internally though. You can connect it into a stereo input too though.
U can donate to VA orgs or boys & girls clubs!

I have an iPad 2 and use it as monitor for my drones. Dji 3, 4pro, Spark and Mavic 2 duo (thermal). When not in use with drones it is my remote wifi monitor for my Canon 6D. This allows remote shooting with control of the camers.
An anchor for a small boat.
Wait for new IPad iOS in a few months. I just met the Apple rep and he told me it will be worth the wait.
That's a great idea. Cool..

Thanks for that post! I too have an older iPad2 that does not get much use. I was even thinking of getting a photo frame and using the old iPad had not occurred to me. 😖 That is a great idea! 😀
The computer is way more useful to me than the iPad. Even the iPadPro. There are simple things I can do on the computer that I cannot do on my iPads. iOS is the limiting factor. But I will not hold my breath expecting a new iOS to solve the problems, nor for the new iOS to work with the old iPads.
At the time Apple introduced iOS they were naming their operating systems after big cats. iOS should have been called "Tabby".
I think in the case of tablet operating systems Microsoft did the right thing. Their Surface products run a version of the same OS as the computer. That makes a lot more sense.
