It wasn't only the single tree that we had. For entertainment we had an NCO club in a motor pool tent for entertainment and some local ladies if you leaned that way. That is the place I got interested in photography. I went to our little px one day to get a few things and low and behold, there in the case was a brand new Pentax and A Canonet rangefinder. Bought the Canonet and spent most of my free time walking around the countryside getting many boxes of slides with kodachrome 64. Had a lot of fun doing that, and then one time when we moved all my slides came up missing. That little Canonet with kodachrome 64 produced some beautiful slides. Wish they never came up missing. Still have the Canonet!

I'll bet that Leica was fun to shoot with! If my computer will let me here are some photos of my Canonet. I don't see a model # on it. There are the pictures finally. I know that sensor around the lense stopped working, but it is still good to use manually. I had a place lined up in CT I think to fix it years ago, but I don't know if it is still possible to get that part replaced.

Your Canonet is just what it says it is, a Canonet. First introduced in 1961, it stayed current until it was 'improved' upon maybe 10 years later with the slightly wider, slightly faster lens (40mm f/1.7 rather than the 45mm f/1.9 on yours) on the G-III, and the selenium cell meter that surrounds the front element was upgraded as well and differently placed. Though these models were inexpensive --nowhere close to the high dollar 7, 7S's, VT's or others of the interchangeable lens Canons of the time-- they were still darn fine shooters. Spectacular, actually, in the optical sense. Whatever problem you might have with your lens --which I expect is more a mechanical dysfunction with the in-lens leaf shutter than anything else-- its a relatively easy thing to fix. Assuming parts aren't required, of course.

I have the manual around here some place, but I forget what that sensor around the lens was called. If I remember didn't it have something to do with auto exposure. That is the only thing that quit working.

Its a selenium meter, and it does couple electronically with exposure, but only while in the "A" (automatic) mode set on the lens. If the shutter fires properly, you can forget entirely about metering with it and just set the aperture/shutter speed/asa according to whichever of the 'Sunny 16' rule reciprocals you deem proper.

Shouldn't be difficult to find a manual on-line somewhere. Or in lieu of that, pretty sure I have the manual for my G-III somewhere and could scan it for you if you like. The two cameras are enough alike that any differences would be minimal.

I'm sure the manual is here, I'll look for it tomorrow. Thanks for the info. I haven't missed with this camera in over 40 years; forgot a lot.

I love the compositions, especially # 3 & # 5. The color is really captured well...
