Frankly, Frank, breaks *may* be allowed when discussing kneecaps or arms or noses or heads, but never when photographic images are concerned. While this is in no way meant to imply any sort of physical threat --I, personally, would never do anything like that-- but I may not be able to say the same for those large, ugly, baseball bat wielding gentlemen approaching your front door.

Pickshurs from Ootah, or --for starters-- your rose bushes go up in flames.

Cany ... you truly tickle me ... I love the images that your words conjure up ... that is until they involve big dudes with bats & bad attitudes coming into my yard. You might want to inform them, that I have a herd of nearly 2 dozen "Attack" Pink Flamingos in my front yard that arrived recently from Amazon. So they might want to know that so they have their affairs in order when they come to mess with me & them!!!!! ;)

As for the break ... I do worry a bit ... about becoming something like that person who wants to show you the 15,000 photos of their grandkids. Like everyone ... I enjoy seeing them ... but not a lot of them. In the same manner, I don't want to irritate folks by constantly posting. That's the only rationale behind the break.

However ... in order to avoid riling up the gang from Ootah, I will send out a post 1st part of next week. Tell them I'm a 2 posts or so away from what I think are some nice shots from their neighborhood. After the Grand Canyon & Mesa Verde, we then went to Grand Staircase/Escalante & Bryce, then to Capital Reef & Glen Canyon on our way to your neck of the woods ... Moab & Canyon Lands. I love it out there ... even if they are "just after my money" as I recently heard!!! ;)

Have a great weekend & thank you for the chuckles. It's people like you who make UHH a great experience.

fbeaston, Have followed your series of photos and narratives with much interest and I am with you on your comfort zone comment. I missed part III, so will have to see if I can still locate it. The demise of a town, for whatever reason, must always be devastating to the residents, yet often makes for such interesting photography many years down the road. I mentioned your Route 66 photos to my daughter who immediately added that to our bucket list. I too look forward to seeing additional images from the rest of your trip.

You are right GreyOwl40, about towns that die ... Jerome is truly remarkable to struggle back from +/-100 residents to become what it is today. It took a lot of determination & hard work. And many other towns died when I-40 by-passed them & the attractions of Rt-66, but obviously the residents of Williams were able to fight back. Stories like those 2 are inspiring to me.

And please tell your daughter that I would never intentionally disappoint her ... but unfortunately, the last photos I have of Rt 66 were in Part 4. As for Part 3, if it helps, you can find it here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-596203-1.html

Oh, & please do take your daughter & family for a cruise on Rt 66 ... what a tremendous experience. Several folks on UHH remember tours with their families many, many years ago very fondly & vividly. Plus I think it is awesome when a young person is interested in things that don't involve a computer (although I wouldn't give mine up for love nor money). However, if you do go ... please share photos with those of us on Hog. As an aside, if you PM me when you decide to go, I'll share some suggested reference materials that I found useful. Thank you for the positive comments & best to you.

Frank, Thank you for the link and your kind comments. As well, I will take you up on your offer of suggested reference material when that time arrives. Many years ago a friend and I had plans to do the whole Route. However, as the saying goes, "the best laid plans of men and mice often go awry."

Today, doing the whole route would be very frustrating ... because so much of it is simply gone. In Illinois, there are a lot of the old road, in fact some old ... some very old. But not the same intensity of things to see as there were in OK. Take that 400 mile trip ... & if you have time, there are several sections of the Mother Road in TX, NM & AZ that will create some great memories. I'm sure there are Hoggers who know what's out in CA (haven't done that since I was on it in the 60's. Anyway ... hope you do it. Best.

Frank, thank you so much for taking us all along your great trip. It brought back such fond memories. I spent a day in Jerome 3 years ago. That town is full of photo opportunities and its residents are truly eclectic, I had so much fun. The year after I drove part of Route 66 after a visit to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert. What a memorable trip. I truly enjoy my cross-country trips, so much to explore. Cannot wait to see the next collection of photos.

And thank you arperry ... I appreciate the visit & comment ... I think your description of the residents of Jerome is spot on ... they are in deed, eclectic, to say the least. Hope you'll post some of your shots from your journeys ... would be fun to see what you saw as well. Best.
