The picture/rendition of Ellis Island and lower Manhattan with the Twin Towers has changed of course thanks to muslim terrorists.
If ever you are in the city it is a great place to visit. Both of my parents and my wife's parents came through there. The security getting to the island is just like an airport. Prebook your tickets. The ferry will take you to The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Nice. My wife's grandmother entered through Ellis, and she was able to find the original entry documents online.
Nice story. Glad he got his camera back.
(I used to have a contact printer like the one in the top right of the first image.)
FYI for those interested in going...you can take the ferry from Battery Park (NYC) or Liberty State Park (NJ). If you are driving, it is easier to park at LSP. And, if it is really crowded in Battery Park (long waits); it is always less crowded at LSP.
In either case, Ellis Island is not to be missed.

We went about a decade ago. My great grandfather's name was inscribed on a memorial wall outside. My cousin had told us to look for it. That branch of the family came over around 1890. It is a remarkable place.
You could sense the "ghosts" of the place's history as you toured the interiors.
